It doesn't matter anymore really. Eventually, PS3 will catch up and sales will be even.

The difference, however will be that the 360 made millions of profit, while the PS3 made millions of...losses.
Sony will be lucky to break even when all is said and done. I hate to say it, but Sony fucked up big time this gen. It's sad to see this once-huge electronics company fall this deep.

It's been shown by kowenicki many times that the one thorn in Sony's side is their television business. It had been in the red for ten years.

Bluray market share is also at 35%

Sony would be profiting right now if not for televisions.

The small profits they made recently with the PS3 do not negate the billions they have lost the years before through the PS3. And I was purely talking the gaming division, maybe I should said that.

And I'm with pezus on that, I want a sauce on the 35%.

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

tell this to some fans who love to "this this this"

"Some" fans, no all fans. It's never all fans. So don't generalize.

One thing I don't get:
I thought the 360 has outsold the PS3 like.... every year. So why the hell is the gap getting less? INFORM ME I DONT KNOW JACK ABOUT SALES :(

Nope. The PS3 was beating the 360 in sales until like 2010 when the Kinect came out. It's been holding the gap at 3 million. On a hardcore front Microsoft has nothing on Sony. Kinect saved their ass last year as well, because Sony had the whole year on Microsoft until Black Friday. Microsoft is banking on the casual sector because thats all thats holding them over Sony.

Lol, best one so far. Why do NPD sales matter so much to some people but not WW sales?

Because NPD numbers are actually real.

The last real worldwide numbers we have are through Dec. 31, 2011. A 3.8 million gap with the 360 at 65.8M and the PS3 at 62M. Now according to this site, in the last 3 months, the PS3 has sold 1.5M and the 360 has sold -300,000. How do you sell negative numbers? Don't ask me. And people wonder why this site is the laughing stock of the internet gaming world? Well, time to log off of here and head back to reality!

Even during the next gen, people will STILL be talking about PS2 sales.

Just saying.

they will....

its a security blanket type of thing.

And that security blanket only exists because Sony had an unbeatable success in the gaming consoles business that Microsoft is still trying to achieve. So it's more than a security blanket, it's an enormous achievement that is a part of videogaming history and, naturally, Sony fans cherish it. You keep trying to play down everything Sony related, it'll get you nowhere fast.

Microsoft is still struggling to understand the industry. Sony got it down on the first try. Giving third parties a voice when other companies ignored them while creating a fleet of gaming devs themselves.

Do we really need to celebrate that?
If the PS3 is going to surpass the 360 LTD, it's going to be just for a few millions. So there's not going to be any difference marketshare-wise.

Yes, PS3 is making a great comeback, and I think that the surpass will happen sometime in the future, but considering how PS3 is doing compared to the previous PS console, the PS2, i just don't see anything to celebrate.

Ah, I am a big Sony fan, and I own just a PS3!

Halo 4 comes out and suddenly the numbers matter to Xbox gamers. The Last of Us and/or God of War 4 gets less sales than Halo 4 and Xbox gamers laugh at pitiful Playstation exclusives. PS3 gamers say numbers don't matter and that their game(s) is/are better than Halo. PS3 sales turn out good and Sony gamers brag about better WW numbers than Xbox. Xbox gamers say Sony already lost and that numbers don't matter anymore.

You guys are just saying what is convenient every. single. time.

360 had all these advantages this gen while ps3 had all the disadvantages.

to be fair the PS3 still had and has the advantage "Japan" over the 360

true but the 360 advantage in North America outweighs PS3's advantage in Japan :)

RROD?  Subscription for LIVE

the 360 is more expensive than the PS3 if you want to play online... always has been.

yea but the 360 has sold like 12 million more than ps3 in North America

Ps3 has sold like 5-6 million more than 360 in Japan

^^ like i said before, the 360 advantage in North America outweighs the PS3's advantage in Japan

Its how those advantages come about that interests me.  The 360 is utterly irrelevant in Japan (we can argue about the reasons - but we dont need to go there) whereas the PS3 has a major presence in the US.

Effectively the 360 gets all of its sales from 2 markets, the PS3 from 3.

aaaand didn't you say that UK is a bigger market than Japan?
