Not even that, it's just a cultural thing. First cousins are in-bounds. The societies that see first cousins as out of bounds are the exception, not the rule (Western Europe doesn't like it, China also hates it, although in China it's also frowned upon to marry someone of the same surname even if you're completely unrelated)

That's true. It's just different countries, different social standings really. Something which we consider normal is most unusual in other countries, and vice-versa. It's the way the world works. I for one am just a fan that they included that marriage possibility, because it seems like a good one.
