Forums - Sony - Sony new strategy 4/12/2012

Kaz's new strategy to make Sony profitable again in three easy steps:

Step 1: Purchase Ridge Racer IP from Namco
Step 2: ???
Step 3: Profit!

So, basically they will stop this whole copying thing?

Jokes aside; it's about time they start trying to turn things around. They should have thought about this before the Vita launched.

They wont do it, but go back to what worked: the PS2 business model.

Make MODERATELY powerful hardware, not the most powerful hardware, so you keep costs down and appeal to the broad market instead of just the 10% of core gamers.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

except the highest selling software on PS2 were core games

launch first and be affordable, that was ps2 business model

If there is anyone at Sony who can save it, it's Kaz, so I'm optimistic.

You realize, of course, that it was Kaz Hirai who turned PS4 development into haphazardly assembling a low-end gaming PC (if the latest rumours are to be believed)?

Best selling consoles are dependent on price and software.

Just look at the ps1 and ps2...they were simply outclassed by the other more powerful systems yet they still completely undressed the competition.

If sony can get a cheap moderately powerful console with some great exclusives with a launch price of $350 or lower, i think sony will have a very very good generation ahead of them.

Not to mention the fact that any game specific console is going to be a 'low end gaming pc' anymore.  Its just not economical to be anything else.  To match a high end gaming rig you would need a six core CPU and a cutting edge GPU, which, even after large scale purchasing markdowns, would be $1000+ right there.

Chances of a move on vita, im pegging at 33%

What good would it do to put a failed motion control device on a failed handheld?

Who are you quoting? I see no user named Train Wreck and I see none of his comments.

HapahzaWhat?

Anyway PS4 specs are much more powerful than PS3. I'm sure none of us want another $600 console with alien tech.

Based on leaked specs the PS4 will easily be able to stay relevant(power-wise) for 5+ years. Will blow away Wii U so I don't really see what your problem is with the specs.

You are forgetting a few small details: When the PS4 (assuming with these low specs) comes out, there already is the WiiU which will have cornered the low end market with tablet, probably a WiiMote++ thingie, and their first party software which is unparalleled. Basically the Wii situation all over again. At the same time the new XBox arrives which will corner the hardcore market with Kinect2 (and considerably better specs assuming the rumours). So is Sony's plan? More glowing dildos? Free internet again (thus less revenue) to attract customers which otherwise have better options in the TWO other competitors?

(And a PS4 with a 32nm cell+ (2PPU,12SPU or 3PPU/8SPU), triple ram, and a modified 6850 would be about $50 more expensive to manufacture than the current PS3s - so there is no need to spend $1000)

yes Wii U will have the low-end market. Too bad Ps4 isn't low end.
PS4 is competing directly with the Xbox 720 which should both be high-end affordable consoles. There's even rumors the PS4 is supposed to launch BEFORE the Xbox 720 which should give it a HUGE advantage. If the PS3 which launched at $600 managed to go head-to-head with the XBox 360, what makes you think sony would have a disadvantage?

where did you hear the Xbox  720 would have considerable better specs? I heard the opposite.
