Blue Valentine is a really good take on reality of couples falling in love then getting miserable with each other after marriage. Sad ending too :*(

I just received Whisper of the heart on blu-ray. 8.5/10 very enjoyable, more so every time I watch it.
And Despicable me 2, fun movie, looks great, the kids enjoyed it too. 8/10

Voted 50 first dates, my wife's favorite. Mine too from that list.

Most of his movies run out of steam in the third act, not 50 first dates, that has a great ending.
It's also the only one of those movies of which I can remember the ending.

I'm waiting for Elysium and The lone ranger to arrive in the mail. Released tomorrow, go go ups truck.

Meanwhile still trying to keep up with TNG rerun. Picard, Guinan, Ro and Keiko got transformed into kids in one of the last ones I watched. Then they figure out how to reverse it with the transporter (the solution to everything) and they want to turn back?? Idiots.

I've also been watching Mayday. It's fascinating to watch the puzzle come together. Is it bad for me to hope the plane gets smashed into a million pieces to get a good puzzle :/ If you don't have faith in statistics and need to fly often, better stay away. It's the smallest things that can bring a huge plane down under the right circumstances.

And a guilty pleasure is Border security. Fun to watch Canadians harass American travelers, slap the cuffs on them and walk them back across the border. Payback. Nope, you can't travel across the border with medicinal marijuana, any criminal record, or if they simply suspect you might be looking for work without a permit.

Yeah we need some tight border security to keep those crazy Americans out :p They don't discriminate though, Canadians after an across the border shopping spree get screwed as well. Careful what you have on your laptop or phone when you cross the border, you're obligated to show all your emails, texts and data if they feel like it.

Nothing better then a villain that's simply following the letter of the law, true bastards those border people. Come to see your girlfriend from Australia, hmm we suspect you might be tempted to stay here and look for work. You can see her for a couple hours on the airport, tonight you're on a flight back, you're lucky we don't give you an exclusion order... Guilty until proven innocent.

I went through the whole immigration process, started it begin 2001, entered Canada July 16 2002, after tons of paperwork, physical exams, and proof of work and funds. It was worth it, but it still gives me shivers when I see that immigration desk at the airport on the show. I was tired and dazed after the long flight filling out all these papers. Then they tell me, it's very important that you sign inside the box, do not touch the outside of the box. Ofcourse I touch the outside of the box. Start from scratch lol. In the end the postal code was still wrong on the form. They didn't notice it at the airport, got flack for it later getting a health card. Free medical is not easy to get!


I watched Matilda yesterday with the kids. Still a good movie, I love Roald Dahl stories. Looks and sounds great on blu-ray, it could pass for new if it wasn't for the dated decor. It was a lot of fun watching my 4 year old enjoying the movie. He was hiding under a blanket while they were inside trunchbull's house in fear of getting caught. Great scene.


Elysium and The lone ranger arrived, yet disaster struck... My glasses fell off stumbling on the trail and I didn't notice straight away that they broke, Turns out I lost one of the lenses in the snow. I went back, after getting the kids home, with a flashlight and a little rake retracing my steps. Froze my ass off, but no lens. I probably looked mighty suspicious with a flashlight digging in the middle of a frozen field in the dark.
So now the dilemma, watch with one eye, my old crappy glasses, wait until I can get a new pair, or sit really close.

I watched some more TNG last night, chain of command. Picard getting tortured by the Cardassians after a walking into a trap doing a behind enemy lines covert op. How many lights! That would be the one on the left, at least he was spared the greater horror.


I didn't want to watch Elysium yet since my old glasses have so many scratches and skuff marks it makes everything look like a JJ Abrams movie, lens flare topia. Today I got my eyes checked, updated prescription and new glasses, I'm 4K ready again. Set me back the price of a next gen console though :/ Expensive business to see the world in HD. They switched to using 24" 1080p monitors now for the eye test from 12ft away, instead of the old mirror and fixed chart behind you. It's been a while since my last check up :) Anyway there's your optometrist benchmark for dpi recommendation.
