Forums - Gaming Discussion - Have you ever wanted to make a game?

So I have a bunch of time to think at my current job, rather menial so nothing better to do but be trapped in my mind and let my creativity slowly kill me. Anyway I've come up with three games so far, the first would only exist if I created a web based show, the second is way out of my capabilities (millions of dollars), and the most recent one is something I want to pursue so I'm going to. It would be a game that would be available on as many systems as possible (ios, android, 3ds, vita, psn, xbla, pc, mac).  It would be a throw back to SNES graphics and play as a dungeon crawler RPG but that's not the important part. I'd tell you what it really is but I think I'll keep that under wraps for now.

Anyway, ignoring your burning questions, have you ever dreamt of creating a game? Are you willing to share your ideas? Does anyone have any tips on pursuing game creation?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I've made a couple games and have a stockpile of them for the future.

What you should do is make a demo of your game so you can get investors. Don't be afraid of your game idea being stolen, copyright laws are pretty strong.

Yes, mainly RPGs, a 3rd person game in the guise of Bayonetta, A Demon's Souls style game called "Forfeit", a 2D fighter and a "3D fighter" in the style of Dissidia and all the stories from these games will all be from 2 set universes I've created

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Currently busy with creating games, so yeah.

As for tips on pursuing game creation, scour the internet for good tutorials (There are a ton out there), start of by trying out some free engine tech to mess around with (UDK is free for non-commercial use, Unity Basic is free for use on PC & Mac (I believe).

Browse around for some friends you may have who have the desire to do the same is also something I'd recommend, having a small team to work with is beneficial in most cases.

Yep currently a senior in college for game design and i'm working on about 2 games right now with a group im in.

I shall be making games once I finish my first year of university! In groups like Mad55

Yes, and if I ever find enough time to learn more programming, I probably will make a game of some kind.

See I'm jealous, I don't have the skills or any background in it. I went to college but should have changed my major to at least computer science half way in but didn't, BS Public Admin/Minor PR. Right now I'm trying to become a Social Media Specialist and have to dedicate my time more towards XHTML, CSS, and web publishing. Until then I might only be able to sketch my concepts on paper, but not sure when I will start since I need to concentrate on getting into the game industry first. I'll check out Unity Basic and UDK. Are there any skills I should start to learn in order to give myself a foothold or at least a better understanding if I can gather some people to make a game?

Oh and I've considered taking college courses but money is tight, best I try to make use of my degree and open up more options. What programming language could a fresh beginner start using? C++? Any good books, tutorials. I'm thinking about grabbing a few books from the library and locking myself in a room.
