So I was pondering about this and I think it would be a pretty good idea in video games and I just want your guys opinion. So the idea is there's a camera on a future console or maybe use the kinect camera or PSeye for now and make it so the camera takes a 3D picture of your head and puts it into the game, so the main character is now literally your face. Now I know what some poeple are think and it may not be that much of a big deal since you don't see the main characters face that much through gameplay anyway, but seeing it in cutscenes and opening would be pretty cool.

Also have the ability to update your face, putting scars on it sunglasses tattoos anything to make it a little more badass then it is. I think it can make the game more personal and a little mroe emotional, it's you trying to save the world. Now of course everyone wouldn't want this and would rather play a different identity, in that case you can have the option to have the main characters face or yours.

Now what do you think, great idea? or stupid. Please provide a reason :)

What about when the player speaks? How would their lips move? Or what about any sort of facial movement? Using a picture would not allow this.

No. If I wanted to see myself, I would pay $400 for a console to do it. I would look in a mirror. Also, if I wanted others to see what I look like, I would send them a picture.

Pro evo and Fifa already do something a tad similar I think

Not a picture but like a 3D scan. And maybe it'll require you to record yourself saying specific words or sounds to record your lip movements or facial reactions. I dunno I didnt come up with everything!

This has been done before. The first game I remember doing this is This Is Football for PS2, with the EyeToy.

Do you really want to see my ass that much? But yeah, it was funny, although the effect only worked when you saw the player from the front. When you saw it from a side you could see the ass had a nose and a chin (you had to mark the edges of the face and it wouldn't let you go beyond certain 'standard' parametres, so I had to give the ass these features). It was still fun experimenting with faces like teddy bears, my cat, etc.

And Troll_Whisperer is the reason why this will never be used online ever...:p

Quite a few games already to this. E.g. FIFA and PES. It's great for sports games, but not games where you need to frequently look at facial animations.
