all i know is this, wiiU will be the first nintendo console i won't buy.

i'm also nearly 100% sure my mom won't be upgrading her wii to a wiiU either. she lost her interest in gaming pretty quickly after she gave up wii fit.

Why is that? What makes you not want to buy it?

I think kungkras said it well...

The Wii upset a lot of core fans but brought in a larger but now stagnating demographic of new more casual oriented fans. I'd like to imagine there are more potential sales from casuals than from core video game players, so price the thing at $299 and have it out a year before the competition and it's over. The core will slowly creep back once they see the motion gaming nightmare is over.

Motion gaming was never a nightmare.

It was the promise of something awesome, that was never fulfilled.

..nintendo broke their promise with the wii.  nintendo broke their promise with the balance board.  nintendo broke their promise with motion plus.  i've been fooled too many times to trust nintendo now.  the tablet controller will be a gimmick.  not because it doesn't have potential but because nintendo will yet again move on to some other way to sell you another promise and another piece of plastic.

Don't see the big deal. This gen has proven there's room for more than on econsole to succeed (unless you buy into this apple killing the indusry crap which I don't at all). It aint the 90s anymore.
The wii u will succeed even if it aint the be all and end all of modern gaming. As will the next xbox and (maybe) the next ps (actually, sony is the one I'm most worried about these days...nothing seems to work for them of late!)

Kitler fact is Nintendo has always been at the bleeding edge technologically. This has always been the case and they are always finding new ways for people to play games. Motion gaming is not in anyway dead and the Wiimote is still going to be a major control format for WiiU. Casual gaming also is not going anywhere you can be rest assured of that.

You can relax WiiFitU is a certainty and Nintendo will pump out other titles like Brain age.

Nintendo keeps every promise if at all possible but markets do change and Nintendo would die if they did not adjust their business plan.

If you liked Nintendo's past software then you will regret not buying a WiiU. Nintendo always delivers the best software.

That thing is going to sell like Hot Cakes !!

You've heard it hear first.

Everyone assumed Sony was going to have the next gen locked up when they announced the PS3, and look how that turned out. Nothing is guaranteed going into the next generation.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I am going to guarantee that the Wii U is going to sell like Hot Cakes !! What place it will end up I'm not so sure, but have a good idea. And if I am wrong sue me.

You heard it here..... hear first !!

Handheld sure, but I personally think they are screwed as a normal platformholder next gen. The big problem for Nintendo is that they are now aiming at the core gamers as well which takes away the family friendly image that the Wii has. Another problem is that it's only 40% more powerfull then current consoles and will probably be a lot more expensive when it launches.

The quesition is if the Tablet Controller is enough to really push them through and I think that will come down to the support Nintendo can get for it. Their controller requires specific games designed for it else you just get some shoe-horned in functionallity, meaning multiplatform games will be pretty much identical on all 3 consoles. Considering the Wii-U has to play catch-up with a 140m installbase of MS and Sony combined, I don't see a lot of 3rd party's supporting it in a way that really makes the Wii-U version of their multiplat games the clear superior version. IMO it will all depend on Nintendo's first party games and if people will buy it for the multiplatform titles as well. For example how is the online service compared to XBL?

What I do know is that 40% more powerfull is way to little to seriously compete next gen. In two year time we will probably see MS and Sony launch a console that is 10 times more powerfull and it could be the Dreamcast all over again.

Probably in the handheld market (I don't count Apple and smartphones/tablets) even though the next wave of software has yet to be known. But if Vita doesn't attract more 3rd parties by the end of the year it's pretty hopeless.

I don't see Wii U succeed : the damage that Wii has done to Nintendo's image towards 3rd parties and gamers is just enormous. PS3 and 360 kept offering the best when Nintendo made casual gaming a priority. Now Wii has virtually no releases whereas PS360 delivers hit games every week. I see no reason for them to go back to Nintendo. 3rd party support is still a big question mark a this point. E3 will be crucial for that, but atm there is little support.

Also, Wii U will be marketed at a higher pricepoint than Wii (when PS3 and 360 will be 250€/$ or less), which will deter many casual gamers who don't think gaming as a priority. Anything above 299€/$ is suicide, and I reckon the technology will not make it possible to offer this level of price. Furthermore, some of them might just not feel the need to upgrade from Wii.

For starters, touch screen controller does not equal tablet computer.

Anyone who thinks that by buying a Wii U that the'll be getting the equivalent of an iPad in the package will probably be returning it the next day when they find out

A) it's just a controller
B) it's tethered to the console and has no ability to function independently

But, completely ignoring the touchscreen controller, which all three manufacturers may well end up having, if the Wii U retails for $299, it has the potential to build up a massive lead in the one year it has before the Xbox 3 and PS4 are likely to debut. If the PS4 and Xbox 3 retail for $399 or even more, there's a pretty good chance it will hold onto that lead if they have solid 3rd party support this time around.

The damage Sony is doing now to it's image is unprecedented. Only time will tell if the PS Vita will ever take off. Sony is still losing money to date. I think that is most serious than most people realize. Only fanboys talk of PS4, while Sony talk 10 year lifespan. Second is not so bad, but first to last place again is unprecedented. Xbox360 is lead platform from almost all third party titles and games look almost always better. It still have a controller from two decades ago. I can go on and on rumblin but I am going to stop. I should never talk about Sony that way, but when you have fanboys that like to talk careless in front of the world I feel I can do it too.
