I think I read somewhere that Analyst Micheal Pachter said that Diablo 3 will sell more than the Wii U. Not sure where I saw that, maybe I just made it up.

OT: I hope that Diablo sells much more than that! One of the only computer games that I have ever played. Diablo 2 was 100's of hours of fun. Although I think I played Diablo 1 on my PS more than on the computer. Just because I do not like computer games too much.

What so you didn't like the rampant cheating that went on during Diablo 1 on PC?  I remember all the fools that went around with regular God Mode.  They should have used Fake God Mode 2 which actually shows damage being taken off but when you get to 1 health (it fills to the top again like you just took a full health potion).  I could stand there for 10-15 mins with people hacking at me thinking they could kill me....  Yea I cheated for PVP...  but only after 80+% of the Diablo 1 user base started cheating.  Least I used the funnier cheats and gave people hope of one day killing me.

Meh, Diablo 1 was easy enough with the Rogue class, using cheats on it was overkill. I was never much into PVP back on the Diablo days, I only discovered it's joys on DII, which while they were cheat free, it did a couple of extremely nagging exploits (SummonNecro lag, Bone Prison Town Portals, TP Killing, etc.) that were hair-tearing sometimes.

How about teleporting (using the chest armor piece that allows teleporting) hammerdins or the zeal pallys that somehow people could create way better ones than I ever could. My main was basically the noobish class in the book (trap assassin) but you should have seen my exploding traps on Baal runs (and my main lightning trap did pretty decent damage).  Corpse explosion makes Baal runs last about 40 secs.

Diablo 1 it was just fun killing people but the main trick was not to kill them yourself.  The main trick was to damage them enough to the point of almost dying and then have a mob kill them.  Guess what?  You only dropped gold and an ear if you died from a player but if you died from a mob in Diablo 1 you dropped everything you have equiped.   LOL  they would be so pissed if you took their shit.

Enigma plates FTW! My Whirly Barb build used it all the time and it was total destruction on PVP. Heck, I could even take on Hell with Players 5/6 difficulty with ease, with a 35% mana steal weapon/build.

Zealadins are as easy to build as they are to screw up. Most people focus on getting as much attack speed as possible, but they forget that there's a limit to how many frames per attack you can pull out. The limit was 3 frames per attack, giving you a maximum of 8,2 attacks per second, which was easily achievable with a Zeal level 15 and a 150% attack speed weapon (couple that with the synergetics from Fanaticism aura and you can take out the 150% attack speed weapon for a more benefitial augment). Couple that with Sacrifice (and a >10% Health Leech weapon) to do a shit ton of damage and Holy Shield for those pesky ranged enemies (like fucking Coldcrow...I hate her) and you basically have an unstoppable force of destruction capable of doing over 15K DPS.

Trap Assasins pretty much dominate on PVP and PVE as well, but they're tricky to play and build, not recommended for the less experienced DII gamers.

I never had a problem with Cheating on Diablo 1. But when it came to Diablo 2 we spent hours trying to build our guy up through cheats and stuff, because those people pissed me off. Or if they just happened to die we would instantly steal there stuff if we could. Ofcourse in the process of all of this we turned into cheaters ourselves, but could you play the game back then without doing this? Maddening!

Still loved it though!

Diablo 2 you didn't drop gear anymore when being killed by monsters.  So the only thing you could steal would be gold and an ear (I believe they still had those didn't they).

Are you sure? Online? I just remember, well maybe people left stuff for others to pick up then?

Yea at first you had to drop shit on the ground then run over and pick up what they dropped hoping they didn't fuck you over.  Then they finally implemented a patch that had the trading option (perhaps it just came out when the expansion came out).  For awhile you didn't have a trade screen.  You had to pick shit up and hope for the best.  Once they finally put the trade screen in trading became a lot safer.

Picking up items and clicking on potions was the original way to dupe in Diablo 1.  I believe it might have even worked in Diablo 2 but I am not sure.  You would think they would have fixed that (I believe they may have but I can't remember if I pulled it off in DIablo 2).  You can still duplicate items this way in Diablo 1 even though they "tried" to address the issue with a patch way back.

He's right. On PVP, defeating a player would only earn you their "ear" as a trophy. But you're correct in that people could leave stuff on the ground for others to pick, but only when they were part of the same team. You can't pick stuff left by Hostile players.

Edit - Damn, I forgot about the Trading screen!

i think it will do like 2 or 3 million in its first year then 4 million total. i mean its sales haven't been that huge on past games I think.

You should do a little research...

i did neither one seemed to crack 5 million copies, but maybe i didn't research hard enough.

I'll admit that the information is not as easily accessible as I thought. I had to use the WayBack Machine to retrieve an old 2008 Blizzard press release:

http://web.archive.org/web/20080701085213/http://www.blizzard.com/us/press/080628.html

About the Diablo Series
Launched at the end of 1996, the original Diablo helped popularize the action role-playing-game genre, earning widespread critical and commercial success. The game's sequel, Diablo II, shipped in 2000 to similar acclaim, winning several Game of the Year awards and at the time becoming the fastest-selling computer game ever. Diablo II's award-winning expansion set, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, debuted in 2001, becoming Blizzard Entertainment's sixth-consecutive #1-selling game. To date, the franchise has sold more than 18.5 million copies worldwide.* Diablo's gothic horror theme has also inspired a number of licensed products, including novels and action figures.

Lol holy shit never mind its bigger than i thought. I wont even put out an estimate.

If its PC only in its 1st year I'll go out on a limb and say there is no way it'll make 5 million,

wouldnt be surprised if it got pirated 15 million times, but real sales will be less than 5mil, it seems only a small portion of the PC market feel obliged to pay for games these days. The PC gamers I know think it is their right to get games for free and wouldnt buy a brand new AAA title if it was 50 cents.

It will sell almost as good as SC2.  You know how much SC2 sold at first?

Yea trading was a tricky situation before the trade screen wasn't it?

I can't remember the amount of times I was screwed over because of that...but I do remember what was the worst.

I had an amazing Shako for trade (120 defense, +2 to all skills, 90 to life and mana, 10% damage reduction, 50% better chance of getting magical items and +2 to all atributes), but since it was worthless for my Whirly barb, I was trading it for two pieces of the Immortal King set (I was only missing the Soul Crusher and the Soul Cage). The guy showed me the Soul Cage and said he'd only drop the Soul Crusher and let me get the Soul Cage after I dropped the Shako (otherwise, if I attempted to move for the Soul Cage, he would go immediatly hostile), so I thought that was a fair deal. I dropped the Shako, the guy teleports to it, grabs it and goes immediatly hostile.....

I fucked him over hard and made it my personal goal to hunt him down if I ever saw him on the server, but even after getting the satisfaction of killing him a couple of times, I was still left out of the Shako and the two pieces of the set.

Eventually I got the pieces (from Baal runs)...but that trade still pisses me off everytime I remember it.

No Idea, but feel free to enlighten me

I see that VG still has SC2 at less than 3.5 mil though? can that be right, I thought there was a sea of rabid Blizzard fans out there who would buy anything Blizzard may have even mentioned is cool, let alone actually produced. were they all playing Wow for the SC2 launch or something??? (sorry i'm female & not a Blizzard fan, so I dont tend to follow them at all)

Of course again, the rabid sea may have all pirated SC2, I work with at a uni with many academics who are PC players & I heard on decent authority most PC piracy rates are at least 10:1 (and most of them pirate exclusively too, despite being on 6 figure salaries, priorities right?!?!)
