I never had a problem with Cheating on Diablo 1. But when it came to Diablo 2 we spent hours trying to build our guy up through cheats and stuff, because those people pissed me off. Diablo 2 you didn't drop gear anymore when being killed by monsters.  So the only thing you could steal would be gold and an ear (I believe they still had those didn't they).

Are you sure? Online? I just remember, well maybe people left stuff for others to pick up then?

He's right. On PVP, defeating a player would only earn you their "ear" as a trophy. But you're correct in that people could leave stuff on the ground for others to pick, but only when they were part of the same team. You can't pick stuff left by Hostile players.

Yea trading was a tricky situation before the trade screen wasn't it?

I can't remember the amount of times I was screwed over because of that...but I do remember what was the worst. 

I had an amazing Shako for trade (120 defense, +2 to all skills, 90 to life and mana, 10% damage reduction, 50% better chance of getting magical items and +2 to all atributes), but since it was worthless for my Whirly barb, I was trading it for two pieces of the Immortal King set (I was only missing the Soul Crusher and the Soul Cage). The guy showed me the Soul Cage and said he'd only drop the Soul Crusher and let me get the Soul Cage after I dropped the Shako (otherwise, if I attempted to move for the Soul Cage, he would go immediatly hostile), so I thought that was a fair deal. I dropped the Shako, the guy teleports to it, grabs it and goes immediatly hostile.....

I fucked him over hard and made it my personal goal to hunt him down if I ever saw him on the server, but even after getting the satisfaction of killing him a couple of times, I was still left out of the Shako and the two pieces of the set.

Eventually I got the pieces (from Baal runs)...but that trade still pisses me off everytime I remember it.
