I never had a problem with Cheating on Diablo 1. But when it came to Diablo 2 we spent hours trying to build our guy up through cheats and stuff, because those people pissed me off. Or if they just happened to die we would instantly steal there stuff if we could. Ofcourse in the process of all of this we turned into cheaters ourselves, but could you play the game back then without doing this? Maddening!

Still loved it though!

Diablo 2 you didn't drop gear anymore when being killed by monsters.  So the only thing you could steal would be gold and an ear (I believe they still had those didn't they).

Are you sure? Online? I just remember, well maybe people left stuff for others to pick up then?

Yea at first you had to drop shit on the ground then run over and pick up what they dropped hoping they didn't fuck you over.  Then they finally implemented a patch that had the trading option (perhaps it just came out when the expansion came out).  For awhile you didn't have a trade screen.  You had to pick shit up and hope for the best.  Once they finally put the trade screen in trading became a lot safer.

Picking up items and clicking on potions was the original way to dupe in Diablo 1.  I believe it might have even worked in Diablo 2 but I am not sure.  You would think they would have fixed that (I believe they may have but I can't remember if I pulled it off in DIablo 2).  You can still duplicate items this way in Diablo 1 even though they "tried" to address the issue with a patch way back.
