I have two 3D tv's... I didn't want 3D neccessarily but you just get it now when you get the best sets.

I also have SKY+HD so I get 3D tv content on demand and I have a PS3 and a blu-ray player in the other room that is also 3D capable.

How much 3D content do I watch? next to none.

Its essentially a gimmick that fades after time... I watch the odd football match in 3D for curiosity purposes but I don't find that 3D adds anything to normal TV viewing really.

The BBC are broadcasting the Olympics in 3D so that might be interesting... but again only for novelty value.

Your posts tend to make a lot of sense to me these days... there are 2 3d tvs in my house that have shown zero 3d content in the last 3 months. Last thing i played in 3D was sonic generations.

3d few years ago was exciting because it was experimental. There were no standards and no templates for success that were followed. Back then Everyone was just doing their own thing and results were interesting.

Todays state of 3d is what happens when something niche is commercially exploited.

Once content providers and tv manufacturers give up on milking everyone for tacked on 3d we should see some cool things again. I expect 3d augmented reality to be pretty hot stuff in the next 5 years...

3DS is great. It never blurs, it never tires me. But it's not as "potent" as TV or Movies 3D... but they have all kinds of problems, the worst being the glasses (not just glasses, dark extremely unconfortable ugly glasses)

The only two movies I saw that had great 3D were:

And TIntin almost blurred too much to be called great. So to me, it could go away, except the glass-less. They should evolve this tech for bigger screens, but I think this is rather difficult, physicswise. Even a bigger 3DS screen would be a great achievment, imo.

At first, I didn't care about it and I was skeptical about it being in the living room. (Going to the movies to see movies in 3D is cool though imo) But now I think it's a nice luxury to have. The 3DS is awesome, and I recently picked up the Playstation 3D display for cheap and Uncharted 3 and Killzone 3 are great to play in 3D.

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

Seven out of the top ten grossing movies of all time have had a 3D release. It's been so successful, they're re-releasing older movies (Jurassic Park, Star Wars) with 3D into another theatrical release. 3D is here to stay, and I don't mind. People once bitched about colour. People once bitched about CGI. People once bitched about high-definition picture. Now people are bitching about 3D. People will probably bitch about whatever the next technological leap is.

It was 'cool' in 2008...mainstream by 2010..it will be dead by next year.

But, but, but... I thought you loved 3D??.

loved is the correct word. 2 years ago it was cool and fresh...today i cant wait till it dies off so i dont have to pay a premium to watch movies that are only in 3d and have no business being in 3d.

So you don't think 3D adds to films that are shot in 3D and not just converted??, You don't think 3D no longer adds anything to games??. I thought you used to love playing games in 3D, so whats changed about that part??

Probably the same thing as happened to me in '98. You get used to it, the novelty wears off. You start noticing the effect less and less as your brain catches on that it's not real 3D and you start noticing the crosstalk more and more. Then you realize that a brighter, higher resolution, higher framerate 2D picture outweighs the benefits of 3D.

As long as you have to look through darkened glasses or have to keep your head in 1 spot while watching, 2D will win out in the long run.

But if things keep going as they have been, then we'll get a new wave of 3D in 2018, maybe with active headtracking glasses free 3D tvs this time.

You hit the nail on the head with this, in fact I am going to delete my post above as you're is better...

I think 3D is a net positive for entertainment, but only if done well. I've experienced a few games and movies in 3D, and the effect ranged from painful to mind-blowing, depending on who made the production.

Another person here with 3DTVs in our house, with Sky HD, PS3s and all the rest... never once used the feature. Not just me, the whole household.

My dad only bought 'em because he wanted sets with a thin-frame border (this - http://www.johnlewis.com/231222451/Product.aspx - btw). Honestly, the best thing about the set is the Youtube app...

I dislike 3D content in the cinemas, too. I hate having to wear glasses, and I hate the way films are made "for 3D", as in, the 3D is a major feature of the film. It would be like having everybody wearing multi-coloured coats just to show off that it's no longer black and white. Pointless, and distracting.

I enjoy it but it's a massive strain on the eyes, my eyes have gone from 20/20 to absolute/shithouse in the last year or so. Combination of gaming and constant reading.

Some games look really good in 3D like Uncharted 3 and MK7, but it's not a necessity that's for sure.
