Forums - General - What are your thoughts on 3D entertainment?

Is it here to stay will it be the future, or is it just a phase, will 3D eventually die out?

Well I have a Htc Evo 3D phone. It's a great phone, but the 3D is kind of a gimmick in my opinion. I also will be getting a 3DS whenever the Ice White color hits NA, but i just want it for the games. I don't think I'd use the 3D that much to be honest.

As for movies, I have never seen a 3D movie in the theaters before so i won't comment on that. I think once technology reaches the point where 3D is no longer a gimmick, then it could possibly become a staple in entertainment. But for right now, it's more of a "Oh hey, that's neat" For a few minutes, then you forget about it.

Seen my first 3D movie today, I don't think it's worth the extra 5 bucks to watch it, maybe half a dozen things popped out at you. The previews had some of the best 3D actually. Apparently it was one of the best 3D movies to according to my friends so I guess I didn't miss much.

The Lorax btw.

Honestly I don't like it, I feel as if 3d makes things actually look much worse and I cannot wait for the fad to die out hopefully.

Wasn't a big fan of the idea until I saw some movie. Can't remember what it was. Probably Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs or something. It convinced me to pay extra for 3D whenever I had the option in theaters. From there, 3D TVs were an option. I never wanted one because the media always said that it wasn't any good.

The 3DS was announced and people at E3 were losing their minds. I wanted one but I wasn't really impressed when I saw one in person. I did wind up buying a 3DS in mid 2011 and I was satisfied with it. Considering how small the screen was, I was quite impressed when I played Zelda OoT. From there, 3D has been hit or miss with the 3DS as some companies use the 3D better than others.

Back to the 3D TV. I never wanted one. It had a bad name in the media and the gaming media. Some people spoke well about it but I had already made up my mind that I never wanted a 3D HDTV. Well, while waiting at Best Buy for my GF to buy a laptop, I wandered into the gaming section. I was looking for the Sony 3D headset. Of course, the device wasn't in stock. I saw a 3D TV on display with glasses in front of it. I looked through the glasses and I was really amazed by the tech. It was my destiny to purchase a 3D HDTV. I got one earlier this month and I'm quite pleased with it.

So, long story short, in movies, gaming, and television, I love the technology. I've even gone back and sampled games I own just to see the 3D features (Gears 3, Enslaved, Uncharted 3, Batman Arkham City) I missed the first time around. I gotta admit, I can't wait to play them with their new coat of paint. The 3D makes a difference. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up buying a game based solely on the fact that it has 3D compatiblity. It's awesome. AND, I just discovered that I had 3D programming with DirecTV all of this time. I'm in 3D heaven!

The Lorax.  Hmm.  I saw that movie.  The best 3D moment was the Dispicable Me 2 teaser at the beginning of the film.  The rest of the movie wasn't all that impressive in 3D.  If you thought that was good, a movie like How To Train a Dragon, Kung Fu Panda 2, or UP will make you lose your mind!

Watched all but UP (not 3D of course), been meaning to watch it.

Haha and yeh that's what I mean the preview for Despicable me 2 was the good 3D preview.

Avatar and The Green Lantern used the same 3D that the 3DS uses. In-depth. I wish all 3D movies were like looking through a window like the 3DS's 3D.

I got a 3D LG for my PS3 and most of the 3D content looks awesome. I played Uncharted 3, Killzone 3, ICO/SOTC, and God of War origins (being my favorite in 3D). I expect more support for 3D games for next-gen. The TV itself was affordable ($300 for a 23'') and has decent 3D conversion for 2D content.

Just bought a passive 65 inch HDTV (theater glasses work on it!) and I'd bet my life it's here to stay. Games and all, when done correctly, look godly actually adding to the experience. It is very strange playing a 3D fps though, like in real life I naturally close an eye while aiming lol.

Plus I make 3D TVs sans glasses as a hobby and when these babies go public you will be amazed! Check this out http://www.holografika.com/
