What about people on crutches? Shouldn't they get to cut because irs harder for them to stand up?

And for wheelchair users. They should be able to cut too. Most amusement parks have obstacles such as narrow corridors, ramps, stairs, etc that would make it difficult to manuevar through.

If it is difficult for you ("a young and healthy guy") to stand steadily for 40 mins, imagine you hard it would be for the old lady. So in other words you were wrong.

The fact that you chose to share this concern of yours shows that yes, you were wrong and you know it.
Next time offer your seat and smile at the lady (or gentleman) and enjoy being young and healthy and helpful.

Well, as a determinist I can't blame you since you did what your brain thought was right at the moment.

So, yeah... Life goes on...

Yes, regardless of others not giving up their seat the choice was your own.

Yes you do. You lose time, energy, and opportunity cost, for helping someone. There is always a consequence for everything you do. He made his desicion and there is nothing wrong about it.

Yeah tell that to the person that one day ignores you while you need help with something. He/she will tell you they will loose energy if they let you sit on their seat.

You might be healthy and don’t need help but one day you will and you will ask yourself why did I not help that poor lady that needed help carrying the bags a couple of meters to get too her house.

Not sure why that would matter. If I'm down on my luck and no one offered me a seat, they can use the same reason I stated, and it wouldn't change anything. The consequence for helping the lady has the same level of risk as the consequence for not helping her. He doesn't need to help her because there is nothing to be gained and the reverse is also true. So, in a sense, there is no right or wrong answer for what he did. He just chose to do what felt was best, considering the circumstances. There is no right or wrong for what he did. Which is why I said it.

Not true. This thread is the consequence of not helping the lady. Now it's entirely obvious to us as well as the OP that this thing happening (the remorse, questions and energy spent on thinking about it) had a MUCH larger chance of happening than whatever negative consequence you can think of if he would have given up the seat. And it's not society's fault or merrit. We are wired this way. We need love, we like kindness...

Well, most of us anyway..., not you.

Why would you be wrong? I've never seen anyone offering his or her seat to another person.

Kind of, but its not like it makes you a horrible person. I'm very old fashioned myself and I like to behave like a gentleman most of the time. Don't fret, but give it up next time and feel better about yourself!

What really irks me is when people on crutches on with other disabilities are ignored. This happened to me two days ago, I was sitting in the far back, the bus was full enough that 7-8 had to stand, among them there was a guy on crutches with his entire leg in a cast and he was forced to stand for over two miles before someone finally vacated a seat he could take. I would have given him my seat in a heartbeat.

Have you ever though of the possibility that you were not the only person tired that day.
