4 Million games sold is quite good!

LOL.....its 2 million dude.

I see. That's not good at all. I thought they meant 2 million retail + 2 million digital.

2 milion is very good for 1,2 milions consoles sold - previous gen handhelds had attach rates of around 5 lifetime.

That's way lower than I expected, but I still don't think 2 million is very good for 1,2 million consoles. More like average or something, and average is not good. To me, at least.

That's 1.67 games per person. That's 10 games for every 6 people. Considering that those ten people then need to also buy a memory card, with an average of 35$, then you're looking at a 250$ console with 100$ of accessories.

A successful attach rate at a store for accessories is 20%. That attach rate for accessories is 40%, and it's likely much higher considering people also bought cases, screen protectors, etc etc. People spent a LOT of money on this.

tl;dr attach rate for games is very high, and attach rate on the console is very high as well.

And let's be serious, you expected it to flop, right?

I didn't expect it to flop, quite the opposite actually. With all the hype about Uncharted I expected most people to buy Uncharted along with at least one other game, so 1.67 per person is lower than what I expected.

I didn't think about the costs of the memory card and some additional accesoires though. Buying two games along with a fairly expensive console and some handhelds may be a bit too much to buy at once.

What world do you live? 1.67 attach ratio is pretty high for launch and for handhelds is AMAZING... the normal is a attach ratio near or below 1 for launch plataforms.

I live in the world where the people I know personally only buy a console or handheld if they buy at least two, but most of the time three or more games with it. I got my X360 with Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Kameo: Elements of Power and Perfect Dark Zero and my Wii with Wii Sports, Wii Play, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Red Steel and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz for example. I thought that was normal everywhere, but it seems I was wrong about that.

The 1.67 attach rate is not so good considering in many European countries there were buy one get one for free deals.

To put it into perspective. Two days after the North American launch of 3DS - 3DS had sold 1.86 million hardware. This was without a holiday season and an extra month in Japan that PSP Vita had.

So it was only 64% as successful as the failed 3DS launch.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

1.67 very early is quite good. How much is 3DS one after almost one year? Less than 2?

Sorry to disapoint you but most people buy none or just one game with the console launch... so the guys who buys two or three is the minority... eg. I have 30 games for PS3 and the actual attach ratio is 9 gamer per people... understood now.

Normal attach ratio for launch: ~1 game per person (consoles and handhelds)
Normal attach ratio after years: ~8 games per person (for consoles)
Normal attach ratio after years: ~5 games per person (for handheld)

First, this hardware numbers are something between OK and GOOD, in my opinion.
Second, this 1.76 attach ratio is really awesome.
Third, @Alby_da_Wolf, if you consider vgchartz, 3DS attach ratio is ~1.93.

And last, you cant compare the 1.76 PSV ratio number with the 3DS one, because this numbers count digital sales too and the 3DS from vgchartz dont have digital sales.
Only in Brasil, we have over 40k digital software sales for 3DS. These number is a low estimation i made looking into 3DS eshop, where you can see the amount of reviews the games have for your region, and not everyone make reviews.
