Forums - Sales Discussion - PlayStation Vita sells 1.2 million units Worldwide

So this is what we know so far:

That number is actually sold to consumers.
The software is 2M total.
Since those numbers includes Japan LTD(we already know those numbers), the western launched did 200k less as compared to this article:

Exactly! Perfect summary... Launch numbers 900k (+ asian launch), more or less.

Not that good compared to other launches, but nothing disastrous.

People sure get their jimmies rustled when there's even a slither of positive journalism in relation to Sony.

For sure. It is most obvious on this site too.

Lets be honest here, there is waaay more of that directed towards Nintendo on this site.

Roughly 45K first week in the UK - http://www.pocketgamer.biz/r/PG.Biz/...ws.asp?c=38346

"Week one Chart-Track figures reveal that Sony's new handheld device sold "around one quarter" of the number of the 185,000 PSP units shifted in the UK during its first week on sale back in September 2005.
Although exact data has not been publicly announced by either Chart-Track or Sony, industry sources have confirmed that the figure is "just over half" of the 89,000 sold by the Nintendo 3DS in its first week almost a year ago."

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Anticipating: Xenoblade, The Last Story, Mario Kart 7, Rayman Origins, Zelda SS, Crush3D, Tales of the Abyss 3DS, MGS:Snake Eater 3DS, RE:Revelations, Time Travellers, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Luigi's Mansion 2, MH TriG, DQ Monsters, Heroes of Ruin

Apparantly Sony are counting pre orders in with this figure??!

45k UK isn't great is it :

As a guide isn't UK 20% - 25% of Europe (roughly) for sales. Seems to fit with PSP's userbase (21m Europe, 4.4m UK)

So 180k - 225k for Europe?

There are something way wrong with numbers here... 3DS sold 113k in UK first week.

'We couldn't be more thrilled at which the rate PS Vita is selling'

I wonder if investors or whoever the hell this is aimed at believes this :-S Surely they'd be more thrilled if it matched 3DS or PSP ...

Yes I know it's his job to make everything sound great and dandy but at one point or another all the big 3 have come out with statements like these which just feel like they're lieing to your face.

This PR piece also includes the obligatory "sales exceeded expectations" line. I swear that every Sony product exceeds expectations.

Well, if they always expect a failed launch it's only logical it exceeds their expectations...

You really should not speak when you clearly don't know what you are talking about.....

You're right, that 89k indeed sounded strange to me but I thought I was misremembering. Maybe then this whole article is wrong.

89k is close to 87k DS launch, that's all I can think of

PSV LTD  (VGC 18th FEB)= 709,914

+JAPAN week (18th-25th)=  ~15,000

Therefore,PSV LTD without week1 western launch  = 724,914

TOTAL combined Western launch week1 = 1,200,000 - 724,914 = 475,086

So its ~475k for the launch week across Europe and Americas combined.
