Forums - Gaming - When will SONY cut the price of PS VITA?

Should SONY cut the price of VITA?

yes they should! 130 53.50%

No they have to make profit! 113 46.50%

Total:243

I think ultimately the consumers will decide when Sony has to cut the price.

If the system is bombing in every territory come summer time, I don't see how Sony would have much of a choice.

It will be interesting what happens when iPad 3/iPhone 5 launch later in the year too, because I think both of those devices will be the "hot" portable entertainment devices to own and they are going to get all the spotlight/media hype/etc.

Nintendo should be able to weather the storm because they have a few cards to play yet ... a decent price point (sub-$170) and a solid lineup of software coming ... Paper Mario, Kid Icarus Uprising, Kingdom Hearts, NSMB 3D, maybe Monster Hunter 4 for Japan. Plus there probably will be a 3DS revision in the next fiscal year.

I honestly thought I never post this, but... the Vita finally sold at Wal-Mart! Two(or three) units!

It took it four days to sell this much? I do sometimes wonder why it took this long to make a sell. Also, here's a photo to show that Wal-Mart isn't carrying the 3G model.

And proof that this is today: http://t.co/w8R89c18

Anyway, I also went to Gamestop today and found out that the Vita is selling at a very low pace and they still have plenty of models. One clerk said that it's because of the price. Another clerk said that the Vita was a dream come true and he really likes the rear touch pad.

To sum up, the Vita is selling, but at a very slow rate. I agree with the Gamestop clerk that one of the main problems is the price. Nintendo made the mistake at selling the 3DS at that price and we all know how that turned out. Now, Sony is making the same mistake, but I think it's going to be a much harder hit.

Seeing as I own it I don't want the price to drop!!

But that said yeah it needs to. When I went to pick up my Rayman game game in Game today I asked how his store did and he said "bad". (to be fair I didn't buy my Vita from Game so maybe people were smart like me and got a bundle cheaper elsewhere).

It will happen though sooner then later. I juust hope when it does Sony hook up the people who got it early like Nintendo did. Not asking for 20 free games, just 19 free games ;)

Honestly, I would consider buying one if it was around $199.

Sony is an idiot, if it thinks the vita will do better here than it did in japan with these insane prices.

Just buy one now. Price isn't going to drop for at least a year probably march 13'

The only awswer to this question is "who knows".

If you want one, you shold buy it... 50 dollars is not that much.
Don't use shampoo, soap or flush the toilet for two-three weeks and there, 50 bucks saved!

2013 at the earliest. Sorry.

lol how would you know?

Same to pretty much everyone else not backing their statements up with any actual reasoning.

2013 is reasonable when you think about it. if the cost to make Vita are down far enough to make profit, they'll likely make the cut in 2013, but if not then 2014 is a sure shot.

profit then sells are whats most important to Sony new ww president Kaz Hirai, and that's all the reasoning needed.

Vita is made from off the shelf cellphone chips that will come down in price fast, so probably sooner than what most think.

That's why I'm (reluctantly) not counting out the Vita yet.

I LOVE ICELAND!
