They have to cut it this year.

When the PS3 started disastrously with a $2 billion loss (fiscal year ending March 2007), the majority of people thought that Sony wouldn't cut the price of the system in its first year, because they couldn't afford to. Sony did it regardless, so a PSV price cut will happen no later than October 2012.

Hmm...well you're right about the price drop, it happened 8 months after release. The only thing though it was a repricing of the 60gb model from $600 to $500, a while after the $500 20gb model stopped production.  They pushed to eliminate the 60gb ps3 and replace them with the 80gb.  Essentially a price drop, but it wasn't made because of demand specifically, that was the 20gb.  The change from 60gb to 80gb was a production decision to adjust the costs of production more towards Sony's favor, because well let's face it their launch pricing wasn't beneficial.

The difference with the Vita is that it isn't that expensive. Shocking I know.  $250-$300, while still concerning, isn't that much over the 3ds $170. (face it the 3ds is underpriced because of their mishap with their launch, should have been $200)  Its also quite a bit cheaper, than the newest smartphones and tablets, around half.  The vita is in a much different position than the ps3.  It's entering an already developed online service, something the ps3 had to do as it went.  It has a plethoria of games on the horizon.  It's not hard pressed to manufacter itself cheaper to fix a fiscal management issue and trying to father in new processor technology.  Given all this I would suggest you reconsider your prediction of the first price cut.  PS3 cut the price after 8 months, why would Vita after 6?  As far as Sony needing to...well let's see what the first 3 months of sales are like.  I expect an excellent first week, but I can't say for the rest of it given the animosity plauging the internet and causing distrust among impressionable readers.  It could be very similiar to Japan, but after a world wide launch and once Japan starts picking them up due to new titles, the rest of the world (namely the scrutinous USA) will gladly accept it into the mobile family.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

They should cut it when cod is released, near Xmas time and market the shit out of it!

Chances are not a cut, but definetly going to have some very nice holiday bundles.  If you're holding off to get a Vita, that will be the time. More games available and more free 4gb and 8gb memory cards than you can shake a stick at.  Then of course probably a packed in game or two, or digital ones.  Maybe even some accessories. Not sure if they are going to be exclusive to the 3g version like the launch ones were, but hey a deal's a deal.  There's a chance there could be a limited time discount in pricing for the holidays, but don't count on a large bundle offering if they chop down the cost.

2013 at the earliest. Sorry.

lol how would you know?

Same to pretty much everyone else not backing their statements up with any actual reasoning.

If a COD game is PSV's ace in the sleeve...I may have to reconsider pricecut or not (er no offence)

The funny numbers in Japan can be owed to lack of software to tune the  gamers out there . And  a high price will only make PSP a better choice. Well I guess Sony knows this and should focus on reducing price a bit only  when more games are out. Software drives hardware just like two sides of the coin. Well as of the world wide, Europe should be the dominant one.

it might be a smart decision not to cut it, otherwise, people will always be waiting for the first cut, making the systems totally unsucsesful in the beginning.

The better thing would be that Sony manages to show the average consumer why 250 is an ammount of money well spent.

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

Wow, I just checked the Vita's price here in Sweden.

Wi-fi = $300,8

3G = $417,5

Yet, the americans complain about its price... You have no idea how lucky you are.

It's only been out less than a week and people are already calling for price cuts? how cheap are you guys?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

I would say in 2 years.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m
