the cardinals are baseball. in evey way they are classic baseball. they have a rich history, and throughout it have done more, much more, with less.

they are the come back kids. they find ways to win games, with super subs, with reletively low payrolls every year.

whats not to like.

they are the very essense of classic baseball.

Seriously.. Chicago must have done something to offend god these past few years.. Maybe putting Obama in power?

Let's review. First we have key injuries to the Bulls, Bears, and Hawks, effectively ending what looked like promising seasons, the Cubs have been miserable, the White Sox choked away a division lead in the last couple of weeks (though I wasn't particularly sadened by that one as I hate the White Sox). Now we've got all our main rivals winning championships: Packers? Check. Heat? Check. Canucks also made it to the finals, and the Cardinals are poised to win their 2nd straight world series.. All I can say is thank God for the 2010 Hawks :/

Meh.  I'm a Cubs fan so that should tell you something.  Also, their payroll isn't always that low.  It was over $110 million this year.

Cardinals are winning the world series

Pretty incredible after losing both Pujols and LaRusa in the same year

Do not forget the Packers beat you badly this year and that the hawks could not get past the first round. Derrick roses injury sucks too. Chicago should just support the Sox if they want a winner.

Bears are ahead of the Packers in the standings though, the numbers don't lie.

While the Sox currently have the better MLB team on the field, the Cubs are lightyears ahead in the rebuilding process. The Sox are where the Cubs were in 2009. Decent, but not nearly good enough. While the Cubs were miserable this year, they at least have an eye towards the future. The Sox are riding on some old over the hill players who, while talented, likely only have a few years left in the tank at best, and then what?

Now now, let's not get ahead of ourselves here. That is certainly not guaranteed even for the seemingly blessed-by-the-baseball-god Cardinals.. They still have to get through Verlander, Caberera, Fielder, and the Detroit Tigers.

Though somehow I have a feeling we're going to see a repeat of 2006.. Hell the Tigers couldn't even beat an 83 win Cardinal team that year.. Could they handle a team that has a whopping 88 this year?

i did say reletively. but true their payroll is  higher than normal (nearly 20 million higher than last year.

but they are only about $10 million over the league average. and its still $100 million less than the yankees, and $25 million less than the cubs

Since I know Giants fans would become even more insufferable with a second Series win, since we cannot crush them in a second Bay Series, and since I currently am rooting against the Tigers...

GO CARDINALS! w0000000000t!

wow the cardinals are insane. certainly the best franchise in MLB history. they are a mid market team, residing in a city of ~300,000 people (1 million including the county). yet they consistantly get more than 3 million fans going through the turnstiles each year, and the compete without a super high payrole.

Not disagreeing with you, but would like to point out that there is a horrible baseball team in the NorthWest that gets sold out seats on a regular basis. SEattle Mariners. Although now that Ichiro is gone I think it will be hard to do.

Damned Cardinals! I must admit that I like them about as much as I like the Yankees.....

actually the mariners sold about 1.5 million tickets, which is about 20,000 fans per game. or less than half of their seating capacity. and thats in a city of about 700,000 (2 million including the county) people.

so not really accurate on your part
