Forums - General - Home-schooling: Your opinion?

So you have pre-emptively dismissed any opinion that isn't the same as yours as uneducated?

On topic: I believe that there is much more to school than education, it's where you learn about the world. I think that the schooling system has a lot to offer that homeschooling does not. In some situations I can see why home schooling would be the better option, but I think for the majority of kids going to a normal school is a better idea.

In rural Australia, homeschools are the normal schools.  In places like Costa Rica, private schools are the normal schools.  However, in the USA, government schools are the normal schools.  Kids do far better in homeschools vs. government schools.  They learn far more.  They are better adjusted to society.  They become better people.

Feel free to disagree.  However, it isn't just about what we think is better for the kids.  What about society?  Where I live it takes $17,000 per year per student to send them to a government school.  Those taxes are highly oppressive to society and completely unfair.  Sending your children to a government school, unless you have a very good reason or homeschooling is banned where you live, is at best, creating a massive burden on your local community.  As long as you can live with the destructive decision, that is fine.  I personally don't want to be partly responsible for the elderly and the poor losing their houses and being kicked out on the street by the government.  That's what happens if you don't pay the massive taxes that government schools need to function.  The local government takes your house.  It isn't just houses, widespread government schools increase the cost of rent and many state taxes.  It is very damaging to the poorer members of society.  Do as you wish.  Live with your choices.

I believe in public education. People have every right to home school their children but personally I would not want it for my kids.

Please Watch/Share this video so it gets shown in Hollywood.

To quote one of my friends:

"I believe in state schools, they teach you stuff that no other institution can. For example, half the kids in my class are now in prison. That's a life lesson you can't get in any private education."

I bet there are plenty of parents that are better teachers than some of those lazy ass unionized ones you get in public school (no offence to the actual good teachers out there, the bad ones know who you are).

Bad teaching is why I'm in favour of privatizing schools, and having a school voucher system to pay for (or at the least subsidize) the cost of school. That way the teachers would have to be good to keep their jobs and the quality of education would skyrocket. Plus the schools could afford new textbooks and computers if they were well-run and make a profit.

I was homeschooled for like half a year in grade 4...because I was a troublemaker in school and was in the process of switching schools, lol. I wasn't a bully, but was just a general troublemaker. I think homeschooling is fine in the younger years but once you're a bit older you should really be learning from professionals.

Eh, you're just creating straw men to attack. No I don't support the government kicking old people out into the street, that's not what I said and that's not what public schooling does.

Considering the fact that Home schooling seems more effective than public or private schools im going to say that Home schooling is the more effective route in learning. But you have to be dedicated and treat it like a learning environment not a place or time to play around.

LOL wish I was home schooled.

Homeschooling can't be any worse than the mess that is our public education system here in the US.

Plus, I've never heard of anyone who was robbed, beaten, or raped by someone who was home schooled...

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

me and my mates used to run amok and we used to do all sorts of bad things that can not be mentioned due to fear of legal consequences. plenty of teenagers play truant and do not even attend school. hanging out at the mall, going to the beach and causing trouble is more fun than passively sitting in a classroom being indoctrinated with public school socialist propaganda.

the private school kids and their fancy pant private schools have a huge advantage over the poor kids who attend the poorly funded run down government schools with teachers/principals who simply do not care.
