You prefer the 3DS screen not because it looks better but because you think 3D sans glasses is impressive. Knowing how simple it is and only going off of looks you can't deny the Vita looks better

The rest are at least ok opinions so I will not bother arguing them.

Those opinions were that of someone who was in fact wearing glasses. Nintendo fan glasses. And any fan glasses, much like beer goggles, tend to favorably distort what you're seeing.

I've been using the 3DS for about a year now and happen to be among those who really likes the effect, narrow angle, parallax 3D limitations aside, but the effect doesn't change the fact that the display is still about 3.5" with a 400x240 res which is less than the PSP from 2004. I'd go so far as to say that the 3DS main display doesn't compare favorably to the PSP-3000 from 2008, minus the interlacing issues.

While I think there's probably a bit too much ballyhoo over the OLED technology in the PSV, it takes some pretty thick fan goggles to even begin to compare it with the 3DS because the reality is, there is no comparison to be made.

But hey; I'll make my own better informed opinions once I have the PSV in hand in a few days and can do an objective side by side comparison in a variety of lighting conditions.

@greenmedic88 I do agree that the 3D on the system doesn't always work. Some software doesn't use it well and it's very blurry in sunlight. I actually thought the sweet spot would be smaller, but it is still small. Other than that, I really like the 3D on the 3DS. It's adjustable and I can take it anywhere since I have always watched 3D at movie theathers.. I also like the fact that I can use the 3D for more than just games with Nintendo Video, Nintendo Show 3D, and the camera application.

I had a field day with the 3D camera app when I first got the 3DS. It didn't take too long for the novelty to wear off though (just over 10 hours total since 3/29/2011) probably because my low res 3D photos can only be viewed on the 3DS, meaning there's pretty much no other use for them. Even so, it was one of the most fun things about the 3DS as a new toy that even had me wanting to buy a high res stereoscopic digital camera for a while.

I also have to say that I really wanted to see anything and everything in 3D on the little handheld, which had me waiting in baited anticipation for every little new 3D tidbit (to include many things I would never have bothered to watch as regular video), but again, the novelty has kind of worn thin after about a year. I still like the video service they added as limited as it is, but I hardly check the 3DS every day for new content. The only time in the past months since they added demos that I've been excited to grab new content was for the MGS3D demo, which happens to be one of the original titles I bought the 3DS to play.

The buttons are a tad small in my opinion :(, I think I'll wait for a XL version. The Analog sticks are weird at first but I can see it working. Btw, anyone know if the Vita trophies have their own section or do they add to your current ps3 tally?

both, actually!  the Vita scores go together with your PS3 ones, but they're also seperate.  when you look at your trophies on Vita, you can search via PS3, Vita, or both.  It's kind of really awesome.  but yes, trophies you get on Vita go to your overall total but you can also get specialized Vita trophies.

I finally played a Vita at Best Buy. I wasn't impressed by what I played.

First, the screen isn't as beautiful as claimed to be and no it wasn't because there was a few fingerprints on the screen either. If I had to choose between a seem-to-be HD OLED screen and a glasses-free 3D screen(Nintendo 3DS). I would choose 3D anyday simply because I notice the difference and it works as it should.

Next, the buttons feel cheap and too close together(at least the X button and the down d-pad button). I didn't really feel the games I played using these small buttons. They should've made them bigger. The analog sticks worked as should, but they don't travel far so I felt that when I moved the character they could actually have time to walk to run. But, I didn't feel that. Also, they are small.

The games I played were Gravity Rush, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and Welcome Park. I really didn't like the load times in the games. It shouldn't take that long to load especially if it's on a game card. The graphics didn't impress me either. There not as beautiful as you would see them on a video, which is ironic because whenever I watch a 3DS game on video it would look better when I played it in motion. I will say that the touch screen wasn't as tedious as I thought it would be, but the rear touch pad remains to be questioned since I gripped the system with my fingers on the pad. I tried holding it differently, but I didn't like the other feel.

I can't really say anything about Gravity Rush. I wasn't diffcult and it was easy to grasp the controls. I didn't feel the combat in the game and the boss battle was too easy. I expect the game to be much more diffcult in the final version.

Uncharted remains to be one series I can't see the praise. I just didn't like playing it and the touch controls were unresponive.

Welcome Park is Welcome Park, that's it.

Overall, I didn't like the system and was unimpressive by what I played. I know many of you will say that I'm a Nintendo fan and i'm saying this to downgrade the system and I will not disagree with you. I am a Nintendo fan. But, I will not say that my experince is lie in anyway. This is in fact my opinon of what I felt.

ROFL, what a load of Biased nintendo fanboy garbage. The screen is easily one of the most impressive on the market today, to say the 3ds screen is better is laughable and ruins any credibly you have. There is a reason it is universally praised in all tech reviews, it rivals any tablet or apple product screen. . The Ds screen is not even close, the DS is old tech with a gimmick that is wasted on suuch a small screen.  Comparing the 3ds to a vita is like comparing a volvo to a ferrari. It's no competition. Graphics not as good? Umm nothing on handheld touched the vita, golden abyss is close to the ps3 version and its a launch title.

The majority of DS sales are kids, everyone in my daughters school and daycare has a DS, the vita is a much deeper and better system, that's just fact.

@Bigspleen Dude, I know you just came here a few minutes ago, but take it easy. It's just an opinon. I even said that in the last few sentences.

By the way, what you're doing is trolling.

Nice thread medic, I'm more tempted to get it but I would spend $400 for the console, 16gb memory card and Uncharted. Too expensive for one game :/

It's an "investment" (I really hate using that terminology to describe a piece of common consumer hardware that offers no returns beyond entertainment value) for future titles and whatever functionality you might be interested in.

If you only want to play one game though, yeah. I think it's nuts to buy a $250 device to play one game.

My rule of thumb used to be a three game minimum before I jumped into any new platform, but that rule was broken with the 3DS (there was literally nothing on release) and even the PS3 since I bought it Jan '07 when there was a whopping one game that I actually wanted to buy. Once again, with the PSV, Uncharted is the only release day title that I really want to play. Other than that, I want to try out the usefulness of the 3G service (for web use) and play all those PSP games on my PSN account that I barely touched.

My total cost to play is $340 between the Launch Bundle and Uncharted. It would have been $315 if I had pre-ordered through Lockerz. Still too much for just one game, but there's a bunch of other stuff I know is on the way that I'm betting will be out before Sony drops the price of the PSV.

No, you're right, I do look at console purchases as investments. Good point.

I didn't mean to play just one game I'd like Uncharted, Mortal Kombat, Gravity Daze and Resistance. And that's only current announced games for this year. But even when the PSP came out (I was an early adapter) I payed and felt the burden of a $250 handheld plus a 1gb memory stick and a game for about $400! But i'm a sucker for hype so I think I will get it by the end of this week

I guess I should look at my 3DS purchase as an example too. I payed $180 for the SM3DL bundle on black friday and eventually got Mario Kart 7. Thats all I got for it and yet I feel satisfied with it. (Though I still plan to pick up RER and Starfox soon)

There are a couple other games beyond Uncharted that I'm interested in on launch (Gravity Rush, Escape Plan), but as untested, new titles, neither are worth buying new hardware for so much as something maybe worth buying if you already have the hardware.

And yes, I made the mistake of pre-ordering a 3DS on the strength of titles that weren't scheduled to be released until much later (MGS 3D, RE Revelations) and the vast majority of my 3DS play time was spent on SFIV 3D and RE Mercenaries; neither of which were games I'd buy new hardware to play. I think a large part of the reason why I pre-ordered was over concern that Nintendo could fail to match production with demand once again (DSl, Wii) and that I'd have trouble finding one when those titles I wanted to play were finally available.

In hindsight, finding a 3DS has never been an issue and the only benefit of buying early was the free game package Nintendo gave out to those who paid $250. Compared to the corrected $170 price (available at $150 through some retailers), it's pretty clear there was no reason to buy a 3DS until those later titles became available.

I'd bet money that supply won't be an issue with the PSV either, so I suppose the only reason to buy on launch week would be for any of the special deals retailers are offering or for SCE's 3G early adopter bundle. And while I wouldn't count on any price drops within the first year (or by the end of 2012), or any hardware updates in less than two years (a long time to wait), most are better off just waiting until the games they want are available.

Of course that guy who has to have everything when it's new will buy one this week regardless.

Agreed. I'm gonna go check it out as soon as I can to make my decision.
