There are a couple other games beyond Uncharted that I'm interested in on launch (Gravity Rush, Escape Plan), but as untested, new titles, neither are worth buying new hardware for so much as something maybe worth buying if you already have the hardware. And yes, I made the mistake of pre-ordering a 3DS on the strength of titles that weren't scheduled to be released until much later (MGS 3D, RE Revelations) and the vast majority of my 3DS play time was spent on SFIV 3D and RE Mercenaries; neither of which were games I'd buy new hardware to play. I think a large part of the reason why I pre-ordered was over concern that Nintendo could fail to match production with demand once again (DSl, Wii) and that I'd have trouble finding one when those titles I wanted to play were finally available. In hindsight, finding a 3DS has never been an issue and the only benefit of buying early was the free game package Nintendo gave out to those who paid $250. Compared to the corrected $170 price (available at $150 through some retailers), it's pretty clear there was no reason to buy a 3DS until those later titles became available. I'd bet money that supply won't be an issue with the PSV either, so I suppose the only reason to buy on launch week would be for any of the special deals retailers are offering or for SCE's 3G early adopter bundle. And while I wouldn't count on any price drops within the first year (or by the end of 2012), or any hardware updates in less than two years (a long time to wait), most are better off just waiting until the games they want are available. Of course that guy who has to have everything when it's new will buy one this week regardless. |
Agreed. I'm gonna go check it out as soon as I can to make my decision.
