Forums - Sony - Sony updates: Vita 3G/WIFI with 8GB card for $299 only+First Edition bundle added with AT&T plan+PSN game!

Was thinking it over and realized that for $10 more I can get a WiFi model and a 16GB card. If I decide to go mainly digital with the Vita I would like to have at least 16GB

I like the idea of the 8GB card + PSN game in this deal, but without knowing what PSN game it is I can't jump on that deal as the 3G is useless to me really.

Now, the WiFi + 8GB card = $285 and it leaves me $15 to spend on a PSN game(s). Maybe since it is PSN only "Escape Plan" will be in the $15 range.

It would need to be a game like that for me to choose to spend $300 on the 3G/WiFi rather than the WiFi + 8GB + my choice of PSN game.

See, now that would be a nice bundle, 3g/WiFi Vita + 8GB Memory Card + 1-month 250MB Data Plan + Escape Plan for $299.99.

I personally wish for a WiFi + 4GB + Escape Plan bundle for $249.99 but that is wishful thinking at that point.

Why do you all keep using the 'no one's forcing you' and 'its optional' to defend items that have the greater majority of people up in arms about.

The minute Sony said save cards were all but mandatory (its pretty much guaranteed that any user will have one) and they they were proprietary and expensive... these forums and all others blew up in disgust and stupidity behind the whole thing.

The minute people realized the monthly cost, up front cost, and lack of any multiplayer on 3G, the majority proclaimed it was a bad choice, stupid, etc... heck its had horrible sales on top of that to further show that majority consider it a waste of money.

Buying a Lamborghini, Coach purse, etc are all wastes of money regardless if a few people are willing to spend the insane money on them. Fact is, its wasteful spending that could have been prevented.

Sony could have used SD cards and saved everyone tons of money whiles still offering the exact same experience. 3G could have just been left out in total and probably help Sony recoup costs faster due to having one sku and simpler manufacturing/delivery process.

The memory cards are the reason Vita is sold at a reasonable price. Otherwise the console would be at least $50 higher. Maybe you can tell us the difference between expensive console+cheap card and cheaper console+more expensive card.

How can sony save money if they use SD cards? This is as mind blowing as the guy who were saying if Sony made PSN subscription based the sales would increase.

1. Its a cart based game system, it shouldn't require extra memory for game related information.

2. Sony's choice to use proprietary cards vs SD cards is a massive fail and disservice to everyone. SD cards are a fraction of the cost of these cards.

3. I never said SD cards would save Sony money... I said they'd save users money. I did save not having two skus (remove 3G) would have the potential to save Sony money as it would simplify production and delivery.

I absolutely agree, especially since we were first told that DLC and saves would be saved to the carts. Games sizes also prove that the memory cards shouldn't need to be mandatory. Either way I am pretty sure most would get a memory card at some point anyways and I was always going to grab one within the launch window, if not the launch itself.

2. Sony's choice to use proprietary cards vs SD cards is a massive fail and disservice to everyone. SD cards are a fraction of the cost of these cards.

This is another I agree with, although I do wonder one thing. Is a standard SD card have the speed required to house games like these? I am not sure what kind of memory speed is required for a game like Uncharted to run without hiccups.

3. I never said SD cards would save Sony money... I said they'd save users money. I did save not having two skus (remove 3G) would have the potential to save Sony money as it would simplify production and delivery.

I too believe the 3G is useless, especially since it is mainly for the social features like messaging, which all of us will be doing on our phones instead, not to mention I aint wasting no money on another 3G data plan, paying for (1) is expensive enough. I will be putting my phone into tethering mode (Thank god for custom ROMS, no need to pay AT&T to enable tethering... -__-) and just latch onto it's WiFi signal if I REALLY need to do something on the go with the Vita.

The point is, if there were no proprietary cards, the console would be more expensive. The memory cards are one of the ways to make up for the money lost on the hardware .I am not saying that I am happy with the no SD or Pro Duo (or something like that) card thing, but you have to compromise from somewhere. If you think that everyone would be happier if vita was $300-$350, then OK. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I guess my post I wasn't very clear, the wate of money part was in the specific features I mentioned; 3G and forced save cards. Vita itself is the same as any game console and its value is based on the content per everyone's tastes.

However, as for overpriced, etc... didn't a 3rd party company just state the cost of materials on the 3G model was around $160?

That is true. No other cost at all. Sony makes $140 on every 3G model. That is why their profits are increasing at an amazing rate.

No. Just..NO.

If they make any profit from Vita is will be very very small. I thougth Sony said they were selling it at a loss. Doubt that has changed.

You should read the rest of the post too, I mean it is only one sentence my friend :). Or the rest of thread would do as well.

Nice bundle for first day buyers. Still don´t think this will help much cause the price tag still says 299$+.

Some people are complaining about expensive memory cards. They should run for this bundle as it would give them a card and a game. No need to complain.

I did not forget how much I paid to replace my Xbox360 HDD. Microsoft made lots of money from their proprietary HDD so why would not Sony specially when they are selling the console at loss.
