So there's a third Vita SKU, then?

I'm not sure I understand the question..it was always wifi only and 3g/wifi model ...they have different bundles and promotions but sku wise those two were there from the start

When it was initially announced, the 3G version didn't have Wi-Fi compatibility. Right? No? I seem to remember this being part of the literature.

Simply, no. It would mean no online multiplayer in 3G only version. I don't know anyone who pays more to get less. Oh wait, I know a certain group :).

wait so just to clarify

1. 3g model also has wifi right?

2. and you can do multiplayer using wifi on that model right?

Of course. There are two models one with wifi and the other with wifi/3G. Both can do multiplayer perfectly fine with wifi. Over 3G there is no multiplayer in most games, very limited options in a few games.

All right. Now where did I hear that falsehood before....

I'm waiting for a Vita for £200-£230 with a free game.

Give it a month tops (I predict 2 weeks) and you'll see a Vita + memory card + game for less then £200. I don't base this on any 'insider knowledge' (Although I do know the retailers buy the Wifi model for £170) but simply my observations of the UK games market in general. Whatever you do if you're from the UK don't buy the Vita on launch day as better deals will be avaliable before March.

it will kill me not having it when its out but you are very right.. im hoping Amazon.co.uk brings out a deal.. even amazon.fr have an amazing deal where it works out its only £191.00

I'm expecting either Grainger Games or one of the big 4 supermarkets (Probably Sainsburys) to be the first to 'cut' sub £200 with a memory card / game. The simple fact is there are about 20 competiting retailers in the UK for the games market and one of them will sell the things at a loss, which even amounts to a £160 Vita or a £180 Vita bundle with Uncharted and an 8gb memory card.

3DS was £220 on launch as a 'pre-order' and dipped to £160 with Ocarina of Time before the official price cut in August... Vita's pre-order price is about the same so it gives you a rough idea where it could end up.

thanks man..Khuutra is confusing me :P

@khuutra: maybe it's because everyone keeps on refering to it as the 3g model and focus on the 3g bit only.

I have a lot of travelling in mid March so I won't be waiting too long, but I'll definitely not be buying launch day. I'm expecting some decent bundles before March kicks off so hoping I only have to wait 2 weeks tops, but I guess it depends how the thing sells and stuff.

I'm not going to be able to wait too long either way as I want one, but I know it'll go down pretty quick. Wouldn't be surprised if it happens before launch to be honest, it seems to go down about £10 every week atm.

Jesus, Vita is such a horrible waste of money.... 3G... proprietary forced memory on a system with card based games... ugh...

Well for the asking price of all this Vita related stuff, this is a decent deal. You'll spend $300 on a wifi only system anyways when you include the memory card and a game, so might as well just get the 3G version anyways.

If you're getting the Vita... best bet would be to just pre-order this.

I'm just gonna say you are full of it. it may not be worth the money to 'you' but to many it will be definitely worth it. Unlike the 3ds, from a hardware pov, psv is not over priced at all. don't like the 3g version? stop bitching and get the wifi one, no one is forcing you to do otherwise

OT: fantastic deal, I might have to get this one

I guess my post I wasn't very clear, the wate of money part was in the specific features I mentioned; 3G and forced save cards. Vita itself is the same as any game console and its value is based on the content per everyone's tastes.

However, as for overpriced, etc... didn't a 3rd party company just state the cost of materials on the 3G model was around $160?

it's not a waste of money if people think it's worth it. same logic applies to 3g AND save cards. Not all games require it..don't like it? don't play those games. nothing is 'forced' here. I personally don't care much for 3g because to me as an individual it has little value but for some it will hold value...there are many who prefer to stay connected always and if you have the extra cash why not. seriously why whine tho? Sony have given plenty of options with the hardware so no one is forcing you to do anything.

and if you think 1. that information is rock solid 2. that's all that matters in pricing the hardware ..that is a sad notion in itself.

To associate teh Vita with a PSN account, you have to have a save card. Basically, no matter what, one card is mandatory and yes 3G on this device, as discussed in detail in other threads, is a massive waste of money in upfront costs and monthly fees.

@those responding to me regarding the materials cost... I specifically said it was "the cost of materials" so, yeah I know its not including tons of other costs associated. It was a rebuttal to 3DS raping people at $250 when in reality it was just making the typical profit all companies strive for and now its losing money.... and that material costs suggests that Sony isn't really losing a whole lot, if any, so long as they have a typical demand/sales curve.

wait again a card is NOT mandatory to play games which is the primary focus of the system. and again no 3g can be valuable to people who find it useful. it's not a waste of money. heck if i had the extra cash I would buy it as well. so again stop whining about it, if you don't want constant connectivity then don't buy it, simple

and again the fact that ninty will be able to post a profit so soon after the hefty price cut shows it was overpriced. this attempt of yours is getting a bit sad now

Constant connectivity, for what to look at your account and trophies? lol... you can't even play multiplayer over 3G. Basically, just download the PSN app on your phone and you get most of the same features at no extra cost. Then use the messaging/talk on phone and you have more features.
