I'm actually surprised. Wasn't the 2D Mario team working on Pikmin 3? Are they pulling double duty, or should we just give up on that franchise?
Love and tolerate.

good times. And some idiots still claim the 3DS doesn't have a chance
I would love to see a non-linear overworld driven game ala SMB 3 or SMW. Those are still the 2 best 2D mario games to date. Give the players a (relatively) easy and linear path to the end game, but with tons of crazy offshoot paths filled with platforming goodness.

Oh, I usually get when someone is messing around with me but fact is I thought you were making an honest question. That one escaped me or was thrown too far away from grasp.
Nope, I've never said I wanted Mario to do that, only want him to become a multiplatform game for PS3 and Xbox but I guess a Nintendo fan may not be able to see a difference.
Edit: Oh, spurgeon, it was you. For some reason I thought I was talking to some new dude called Han Sulu. lol
Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

This...we'd call it "New Super Marioworld"
IT would have a graphical style similar to that of Super Mario World for the SNES, with yoshis, capes, fire flowers, ghost huts, etc. The world would have dozens of alternate levels and paths, hidden, top secret areas, a star world, and a disco world where all the levels were based off cultural slang. (modern world would be like "pwned" and "leet" for the hardcore who want to think nintendo understands them.)
I would buy 5 copies of that game just to share the love.
