Forums - Movies & TV - 2012 Oscar Nominations

Out of the Best Picture nominees, I've only seen Midnight In Paris and I was pleasantly surprised considering the movie stars Owen Wilson.

Most of those films you couldn't pay me to watch. Awful year.

The Artist - Not my thing, not gonna watch.
The Descendants - Looks awful, not gonna watch. No idea why this is getting so much hype. Guess it's 'Clooney's time' or some such rubbish, because they now regret not giving it to him for Up in the Air.
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close - Hadn't heard of it until I saw it listed. Cheesy but watchable I'm guessing.
The Help - Seen. Was good, but nothing special.
Hugo - Meh. Only on the list because it's a Scorsese film.
Midnight in Paris - Hate Owen Wilson, won't watch, ever.
Moneyball - Seen. Very good. And I've never watched a baseball game in my life. Probably the best film on the list.
The Tree of Life - Looks like a chore to watch. Trailer did a good job of putting me off.
War Horse - Looks like typical modern Spielberg averageness. Hasn't made a good film for like a decade but they're still trading on his name.

And how did Philip Seymour Hoffman not get nominated for best supporting actor for Ides of March? That's a disgrace, he was beyond amazing in that film.

I agree with you completly, I saw the movie when it released and found myself straining to stay with it to the end, it was a beautiful film but there was something missing, it felt to me like the film that didnt really know what it wanted to be.

Never will understand the praise for The Tree of Life. Images and symbolism does not a movie make.

Theres different types of movies you know, its meant to be engaging. The Tree Of Life strays away from the norm, and because of this many average movie-goers will not be able to stomach it. Its extremely artistic in its approach I guess you could say. I thought it was phenominal and beautifully done. The average person is going to hate it because they simply can't understand it, its by far an EXTREMELY difficult movie to fully grasp, but once you do, damn lol. Its one of those few movies you can "Reflect" on.

Yeah the nominations really made me scratch my head. I predicted Hugo would get the most nominations though and it deserves it. I'm rooting for it to win.

I am beyond peeved Drive was almost completely shut out (even Albert Brooks) and thought Dragon Tattoo should have gotten more love. Overall 2011 was a shit year for movies IMO.

And how the fuck is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close up for Best Picture?

Please Watch/Share this video so it gets shown in Hollywood.

I'm really surprised Tintin didn't get a Best Animated Feature Film nomination. It means Puss in Boots or Rango have a better chance!

I'm also very surprised The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo didn't get a nomination for Best Picture.

I really wanted HP to get more love :(

And I have seen none of the Best Picture nominees lol

Says who?  I see no problem with that.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I love that The Artist has this many nominations, it shows exactly what the Academy is looking for

Backwards quality.
