Forums - Nintendo - Is Nintendo afraid to challenge themselves?

As a big Fire emblem fan, I agree it has to evolve. I'm tired of the same bland textures and style in all the games.I love it but I'm really not getting the ten

I totally get what your saying we haven't seen MAJOR innovation to the main franchises since the N64 Mario 64 and Zelda: OOT were amazing leaps ahead. Now everything since seems to just be an evolution of those titles. I'm hoping the next Zelda really pushes the Wii-mote element. Although that's not to say I don't love there latest games, or that they aren't pushing other ends of gameplay with new IPs. But I'd love for a game to make me feel the same way I felt the very first time I laid my hands on Mario 64, I'll never forget how blown away I was. I literally drove to toys-r-us like 5 times just to play the demo (prior to launch).

Sorry if I sound like a hypocrite, but the only reason why Mario 64 and Zelda OoT were amazing leaps ahead was because of their leap from 2D to 3D.

You're expecting them to recreate decades worth of games in a year? Rome wasn't built in a day you know.

FE IX was released in October 2005! It came out in NA in October. It came out in Japan in April 2005.

"PoR (or Fire Emblem IX ) was released in April 2005. Since the story of RD is closely tied to PoR, a fall 2006 release was reasonable and thus it was still made for the GC. But Nintendo realised that they should put all their 2006 GC games on the Wii instead to ensure a better start of their new system, thus RD, Twilight Princess, Mario Party 8, Super Paper Mario and DK Barrel Blast were all moved over to the Wii."

Here is another reason: Nintendo hates the GameCube.

And about Mario Party 8: Mario Party 7 came out late 05 (I think) and Nintendo already had Wii dev kits at that point so Mario Party 8 was likely a 100% Wii developed title.

Lastly, Nintendo really hasn't had any compelling games for the Wii besides Prime 3 and Galaxy and Zelda (but that is better on the GCN anyways).

Tifa Lockhart:

Also, I know Roman numerals (Thanks Final Fantasy!)

And the three for Game Boy Advance....

Wasn't the first one on GBA the one about Marth and Roy?

And then Fire Emblem 7 (the first NA game) was the prequel to FE6 (which wasn't released here)

And then Sacred Stones after that.

Ummm, I disagree, mario party has apparantly been very compelling judging by sales, as has Wii sports, Wario Ware, paper mario, Big Brain, Strikers, etc.

 EDIT: 100% Seriousness

WARNING: EXTREME HATE BELOW THIS POINT. And also, this really isn't directed at you, Avinash_Tyagi. I am just sick of these casual games.

Wii Sports: Of course it is compelling in sales! It comes with every damn Wii sold!

WarioWare: ugh

Super Paper Mario: Sorry ass excuse for another Paper Mario and a Side Scrolling Mario game

Big Brain Academy Wii: Lame.

Mario Strikers Charged: Oh goody another f***ing Mario cash-in

Mario Party 8: A lot of people who buy the Wii aren't that smart, they pick up shit like this and think it's good.

CASE IN POINT!!!

I NEED REAL VIDEOGAMES.

NOT THESE SHITTY ASS CASUAL CRAP.

Remember F-Zero GX? That game was tough! Remember Metroid Prime? That was one hell of a game (Prime 3 left me dissapointed, it wasn't hard at all). I guess I am just too old-school. I like hard games. Nintendo wants to cater to everyone so know I get to put up with shit games. Mario Galaxy is one of the best games ever, but honestly, I sat down and got 40 stars in like 7 hours. It took me forever to get em all in Mario 64!

End of Rant: I hate Casual Gamers. They all deserve to die. I long for the Nintendo that was in last place and made a crap load of great games that were challenging and fun. I don't want games that I can beat in 2 days without even trying.

Wii sports doesn't bundle in japan, and its selling great over there, A market must expand and innovate or die, Nintendo relaizes this, they've been through a crash

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I was going to replay to SNES boy but Rol just summed it up quite well. You can't expect to be a newbie in games forever man, those games seemed more challenging because you were probably still getting used to games at that time.

Rol is usually right. But on topic: IT'S HARD TO MAKE GREAT GAMES.

Great games take time, and really, they don't come around that often. Savor them when you get them and support the good ones so you can get more.

As long as Nintendo make a Kirby game and bring back Donkey Kong (platformers, not spin offs) I will forgive them.

I expect them to take more risks this generation. Some people say Nintendo overused their IPs last generation (Mario "something"). Unfortunately that was necessary for their survival. This time with more 3rd party support they can work on original and daring concepts.
