Yes, I agree. Since Microsoft did not put the drive in from the start, they aren't going to suffer too much if HD-DVD fails because they can just release a blu-ray add on.

Seriously though, MS is smart to consider going Blu-Ray, if HD-DVD fails, and it's not looking too great atm, what other option would they have? May as well be prepared in the event of either format winning.
