Forums - Nintendo - Wii U Set To Have Strong Launch + 3rd party Devs Already Have Final Wii U Dev Kits!

Each competitor would kill to be able to do what Nintendo does, sell enough 1st party to survive and be majorly successful pretty much irrelevant of third party sales.

But its not enough at times, as evidenced by the late term sales of Wii, so they gave third parties an open field to exploit. They didn't take advantage, and its their own fault.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I'm convinced the line up will be so strong I'll get it as soon as I can.

AstroMaSSi rules

Stupid troll post. If the OP lived up to it's title, then it would have listed the 1st and 3rd party launch games. All we got is a corporate press release.

Sorry to burst the bubble, the Wii U is going to do just fine. It will be what many Nintendo fans who play their PS3 or Xbox 360 wanted from Nintendo this generation. Will it have a game equivalent to Goldeneye for the N64 where it is the best in it's genre? I don't know, but I would not be surprised as Nintendo is the only video game maker who is fully invested, 120% in living to see the next generation.

The Wii U launch will be fine. As for my reaction to the OP, I don't know.

Dear GOD....when has Nintendo EVER released a console with an enormous price tag.

NES $199.99
SNES $199.99
N64 $199.99
Game Cube $199.99
Wii $249.99

So people honestly think Nintendo is going to jump to $600. Use common sense people, Nintendo doesn't roll like that. They have always made things affordable. Just more Nintendo hatred.

Not quite though. When adjusted for inflation, for comparison with today's market, Nintendo's hardware launch prices look like this:

NES (1985) - $242 *($99)
SNES (1991) - $396 *($199)
N64 (1996) - $333 *($199)
NGC (2001) - $281 *($199)
Wii (2006) - $296 *($249)

As I've pointed out on numerous threads, the SNES and N64 launch prices establish that, historically, Nintendo has certainly been willing to launch consoles around the $350 - $400 window.

*Original USA launch prices.
** Long term USA inflation figure of 3.5% used for calculations.

Even with those numbers, it's still far from $600 like people are trying to run with.

That's a resonable price, but as he said not anywhere near what people were freaking out over.

I want Smash Bros.

The Wii U may or may not have a good launch line up .    but we all know in the long run it will have its games . every nintendo console had them .

the good thing is it's getting HD titles.

if the price is right . then it will be fine!

and don't believe the 600 price holders remember Psvita had at one time a place holder of $1000 at gamestop.

also when reggie said it was going to be more expensive then the wii he probably ment that wii will be $149.99-$99.99  when Wii U launches and Wii U takes on a 279-349.99 price range .

nothing to worry about yet. wait til e3 .  if nintendo makes that mistake then i eat my words .

I agree more with Cheebee. From the press release I understand that Ninty will have a killer app ready at launch, and it may very well be NSMBMii, or a mario kart game out of the gate. They will nail the launch I predict, with explosive sales for the first three months, even at that price. They reason for their price strategy is simple.

Nintendo games sell Nintendo consoles, and the 3DS missed a short window of opportunity to secure a healthy userbase prior to Vita's arrival at the high price due to the abscence of system sellers at launch. Nintendo need to ensure a high price to keep a healthy curve throughout the console's lifecycle. Hence the coming WiiU high pricetag, which it is backed by system sellers at time of launch. That would explain why the lesson was learned with the 3DS only, it's because of this price strategy, which is relatively new.

The next question is, will they be able to meet demand, and will they be able to keep the momentum in terms of quality software? To the first I think there will be convenient and artificial shortages. For the second I think no, not at the start but after 6-ish months 3rd parties will begin to trickle in. The future gen is bright for Nintendo. I foresee massive success.

Well, If I were them I would add to launch titles Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (with SS movements), Endless Ocean HD, Super Mario Bro's Brawl HD, and a couple of other games out very near the launch title of the WiiU.

Also, remember it should run Modern Warfare 3 (Part 2) or whatever it will be called, should run better on the WiiU than the current HD twins. I would be begging Ubisoft for a WiiU Assassin's Creed too.

It will be interesting to see what they do and how well it works for them.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
