As we are probably all aware by now, this gen has been dominated by the FPS genre. Half the games seem to involve two hands and a gun floating on-screen while you shoot enemies jumping from cover to cover.

What Genre do you think will rise in popularity next generation?

In the 5th generation it was 3D platformers and RPGs (Final Fantasy!):

6TH generation it was sandbox games (GTA!):

This current generation, the 8th gen:

FPS games will remain popular next gen but I also think MMORPGs, WRPGs and maybe JRPGs will rise in popularity next generation. Hopefully they aren't mostly in first person view, that would suck...

Honest answer: RPG resurge, casual (Wii U + Kinect + eWare) and Sports games (Wii U). FPS remains very popular.

2D platformers will continue to increase in popularity. I also think that RPGs will make a bit of a comeback.

Believe it or not, FPS will become even bigger than they are now.
