When a company says sold they mean shipped.

That statement sure makes this site irrelevant but still entertaining.

No it doesn't. This site is definitely still relevent because it gives you an idea at how much hardware and software are selling on a weekly basis.

wow microsoft has really proved the xbox 360 to be very succesful and it looks like the gap between the xbox 360 and ps3 willl never close. however i dont think 360 will do as hot next year because everyone will jump on the wii u bandwagon. its just going to be a cycle of power between ninty and ms.

What if Microsoft considers worldwide everywhere that the 360 is sold, while SONY considers worldwide everywhere PS3 is sold? PS3 is avalible in more countries than 360.

Probably means shipped. I wouldn't doubt sold-to-consumers, though.

The oldest console won the year eh? Pretty impressive, i think microsoft deserved it, they did a lot right this generation.

I might be wrong but it appears that Sony's own statement of 3.9 million shipped is proving Steve Ballmer's proclamation to be correct.

Until you know for sure, always best to assume shipped.
