Forums - Sales - Global Up! - 31st December

There's such a huge difference between holiday weeks and non-holiday weeks, it's like day and night. Anyway, back to PS3 outselling the other home consoles, and it will probably remain that way until the next holiday season or a 360 price cut.

PS3 ended 2011 as the best-selling home console for the first time, congrats. And the 360 was so close to actually outselling PS3, I didn't think MS would close the gap this much.

With both HD consoles just peaking, I wonder when MS and Sony will launch their next-gen consoles. Actually, I think that they could both peak yet again if they have a cut this year.

This generation is so weird, it's funny how the Wii was dominating the market while the HD consoles were selling slow, and 6 years later the HD consoles are the ones that are most popular. I think PS3 and 360 have been slower than usual to achieve their potential because many people were still not ready for HD in 2005. Also, I think this generation started a tad early, as the PS2 was still selling gangbusters until 2007-8 and many people were not ready to transition to the next gen.

I honestly believe that if it wasn't for WiiU's launch this year (and if Nintendo had supported Wii properly), this generation could have gone on until 2015. I don't know how WiiU will affect MS and Sony's plans though, I'm really curious to see how it pans out. It could have a huge effect or no effect at all on current HD console sales.

Congrats to PS3 for being the top selling home console of 2011 and for outselling the X360 for the 3rd year in a row. How far can the streak go?

If the old saying still lives in the darkest corners of the world, 2011 would be the best possible case to say that it was the year of the PS3! (good and bad year)

Hackers took on Sony and succeeded for a month and a week or so. Earthquakes and natural disasters went toe to toe with them. Other manufacturers such as LG tried to stop PS3 shipments. Sony cut 50 dollars from the PS3 which they more then likely couldn't afford given the news and doom of the yen and the exchange rates. Still they did it anyways after Nintendo cut prices earlier in the year and practically gave the Wii away for free on Black Friday.
Then the marketing masters over at MS tried to lightly jog through the year then make a mad dash at the end of the year to came close but just short. They had gift card sales like crazy at the end of the year, killer marketing/bundling and even remade there number 1 franchise for the holiday season. They gave 360's away with PC purchases and the biggest PR statement from June to the end of the year, predicting a Babe Ruth type prediction that they will be the top selling console worldwide this year.

PS3 may never outsell the X360 globally in overall userbase and has no chance in hell of passing the Wii, but this year you can't deny they faced all challenges and coming out the top selling home console in 2011 deserves any gamers respect, fanboy or not! 2011 was the year of the PS3 whether you love it or hate it. And as IGN would say "Deal with it!"

You guys, I want to wish you all the best for 2012, may this year bring you the good stuff, most certainly it will for the future looks bright once again. :) Take care you all.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Nooo 360 beaten by PS3. Well since the holidays are over.........and since 360 has been selling on 2008 prices this whole time (!).......they will cut the price in 2012. Sooner the better.

But seeing 3DS vs Vita sales puts a smile on my face

because...?

He obviously owns some MS stocks, why else would someone be so happy about it.

is that debate bait?

No just a genuine statement. There are worse things I could say but choose to keep it light yet truthful.

No you chose to initiate a vile and redundant discussion

Oh please  didnt say the Vita sucks just that im happy with the sales numbers.

Were all thinking it anyway.

No, but you said the sales put a smile on your face, which kind of implies what you think of it.

Yeah how dare he say he like seeing the Vita sales being so crap!

OT: I love how the 3DS is crapping all over the Vita in Japan!

Opsi I just said what I like out laud :O

Guess I’m Do0m3D now!

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

YOY

360 UP 90k (UP 20%)
PS3 UP 61k (UP 11%)
wii DOWN 211k (DOWN 34%)

360 continues its amazing run... PS3 pretty good too, Wii dismal.

truer words

Good to see the PS3 back on top.
Also congratz on PS3 being the #1 best-selling console of 2011!

Poor Vita........

WRONG. It beating 360, DS, and its close to the Wii in Japan. It's early in its life, still expensive, and doesn't have all that many Japanese appealing games.
