Congrats to PS3 for being the top selling home console of 2011 and for outselling the X360 for the 3rd year in a row. How far can the streak go?

If the old saying still lives in the darkest corners of the world, 2011 would be the best possible case to say that it was the year of the PS3! (good and bad year)

Hackers took on Sony and succeeded for a month and a week or so. Earthquakes and natural disasters went toe to toe with them. Other manufacturers such as LG tried to stop PS3 shipments. Sony cut 50 dollars from the PS3 which they more then likely couldn't afford given the news and doom of the yen and the exchange rates. Still they did it anyways after Nintendo cut prices earlier in the year and practically gave the Wii away for free on Black Friday.
Then the marketing masters over at MS tried to lightly jog through the year then make a mad dash at the end of the year to came close but just short. They had gift card sales like crazy at the end of the year, killer marketing/bundling and even remade there number 1 franchise for the holiday season. They gave 360's away with PC purchases and the biggest PR statement from June to the end of the year, predicting a Babe Ruth type prediction that they will be the top selling console worldwide this year.

PS3 may never outsell the X360 globally in overall userbase and has no chance in hell of passing the Wii, but this year you can't deny they faced all challenges and coming out the top selling home console in 2011 deserves any gamers respect, fanboy or not! 2011 was the year of the PS3 whether you love it or hate it. And as IGN would say "Deal with it!"

THis, best summary ever.  im still shocked that Wii went down so quickly, guess it really is just a holiday console
