Forums - Nintendo - Fire Emblem will be the 1st 3DS game with Paid DLC :(

So Nintendo finally uses DLC, too. Sad. :(

updated: 14.01.2012

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

IN JAPAN it is but not US cause Reggie Fils-Aime is against it.

Nintendo is not gonna do what third parties did. For example Activision locked content on Call of Duty and force you to pay them if you want em. Third Parties use DLC to unlock CONTENT that is on the DISC.

Nintendo want to give you a complete experiences by letting pay or get free DLC that is not on the game disc or 3ds carts. They gonna make like Mario Kart Wii Tournament Updates. Where you get update every week I think. The tournaments aren't lock on disc either it actually uploaded to your Mario Kart Wii Channel.

Nintendo do what others don't that why they will succeed in this DLC.

Fire Emblem need new mission and chapters for it. DLC that not on the 3ds cart will give a lot of replay value. It worst it.

I have no problem with downloadable content that costs money as long as the value of what you get vs. the price you pay is reasonable ...

Often the games I see the most potential for this are the games that fall into the interactive entertainment realm. These games regularly are a form of educational product and adding content after it has been released is of high value. For a game like Wii Fit adding additional exercises for $1 a piece would be ideal, or a game like Art Academy adding an additional series of lessons for $5 would be fantastic.

Correct .. now step out of fantasy land. When has this industry acted responsibly in regards to DLC? on average the industry as a whole gets a F on DLC. I know it's Nintendo but will they resist the greed?

Considering Ninty's pricing strategy?? Im going with greed.

I typically find Nintendo's pricing strategy pretty fair but based on a different evaluation process to other companies ...

As a result of this I wouldn't be surprised to see the downloadable content to be more expensive than many publishers but also contain much more value for the dollar. Using Mario Kart as an example, Nintendo might end up releasing additional content in $10 bundles but for that bundle you get an entire new circuit and several additional characters and carts while many other publishers would charge you $5 per track and $2 per character/cart.

expensive ass VC games, having games sell full retail for years after release, not allowing any promo price drops on any WiiWare games is fair pricing??? OK, im glad I have more than a Wii

Thats not even remotely true, not ALL companies do it, and especially not COD. Know what you're talking about first

While you don't see the value of a $5 to $10 classic game (often) with 20 to 40 hours of gameplay many people do; when you consider that Nintendo can still sell multiple millions of copies of many of these games for (nearly) full price decades after their initial release (See 25th aniversary of Mario & The Legend of Zelda for the 3DS) Nintendo selling them for $5 to $10 through digital distribution is hardly exploitative.

Solution to VC games is Emulation *-*! XD

buddy, you dont have to tell me that. Ive been using emulators long before Wii even hit the shelves. Ill add solution to WiiWare is not using WiiWare but someone else instead (Steam, PSN, LIVE), dont think there is a solution to the retail games, except just waiting it out or not buying em

Good for those people that buy those re releases, dont really care about them and I wasnt talking about those games anyway. 5-10 bucks is not horrible but its not great either. Especially when the competition is doing the same thing for cheaper and most of the VC games I really want I have an emulator for anyway. SO why would I want to spend the money on WiiWare?? BUt im not knocking people who do it, more power to them

You're still wrong, because you said all companies lock content and sell as DLC. some do (Take2 with Bioshock2) some dont (RS with GTA4)

They did the ballad of gay tony, and the other street one... which is DLC, as much as say New World Blues in Fallout New Vegas, or other lengthier DLC.
