Some of my friends really enjoyed the story. I agree Noel is a character that surprised me, I was all set out to hate him but he won me over. Definetely the best male FF character since a long long time.

Well I can respect your opinion on it being a good story, it was not told well and there's no real arguing that point.  I 'got' it, but that didn't mean it was well told.  far too many WtF moments, plot holes or inconsistencies, a lack of information until the end, motivatiosn are never truly clear, the mechanics of how things work are never explained.  

Not well told, and that's not an opinion.

Who are you to tell him that he can't believe the story was well told though?

I thought it was told well. They didn't just force feed you all the information at once. It unfolded a little like a mystery, bit by bit at a time for a grand finale in the later portion of the game. Now i'm not going to say that you can't believe that it wasn't told well, but don't push it off on us that we can't believe it was.

Oh dear Runa , when I say it was told well ... then it was told well.

People look at things from different angles you know,  you say "lack of information" I say they keeping you thirsty for more , you say " no clear motivations" I'd say it was "Faith" and hope to make a better future ... faith itself is never clear or certain, I'm not aware of any plot holes , "WtF moments" never bothered me ... " the mechanics of how things work" I don't even know what that means :p

If you guys say so. Might wanna look into creative writing classes or something, because any writer will tell you the presentation of that plot was lackluster. Sometimes it's not a matter of opinion, this is one of those cases. If you LIKED the story, then awesome, I'm happy for you, but there are no arguments that will suddenly make it well told.

And even if it is a matter of opinion, you're in the minority.

It's like Evolution: it just IS, it doesn't matter if you believe it is or not.

It's not a view, my opinion has nothing to do with it.  It's objectively a poorly told story.  Whether it was a GOOD or WORTHWHILE story is subjective, but objectively it stumbled too many times and resorted to telling us what was happening instead of showing us.  too much of the plot required scouring through datalogs, whereas in other FF games you could get a feel for the world just by talking to random passerby or through the plot.  the narrative scope was so tiny that it failed as a storytelling device. 

Plus it was contrived as hell.  

The methods were flawed and only occasionally effective, not to mention chock full of inconsistencies. Whether you want to admit it or not, that's bad storytelling. 

i only finished Chapter one, but i can also tell how POORLY the script was written. i mean, it was so illogical of Serah saying that she has some feeling that she can trust Noel, but in in the next 3 Scenes, she distrusts him, and then, all of a sudden, she says sorry for it, and goes timetravelling. And a scene later, they act like the best pal's - ignoring the fact that theyve just met.

i like the game so far, but square really did poorly with the writing - at least at the very beginning.

PS@EVERYONE: i think this is a sensitive topic to discuss, so why dont we focus on other points of the game? i think the Semirandom battles, and the fact that you have to focus on a certain role for your chars at the beginning are nice tactical touches. =]
