So, my girlfriend has decided to give me either a good heaset or vouchers to buy games for christmas. I thought about it and a good surround sound headset would be nice, especially as I don't have a surround sound system in my room and I often use headphones to play (don't wanna bother my girlfriend).

Her price limit is around £80 ($125), but I wouldn't mind putting some money myself if that meant getting a significantly better headset for, say, £100.

I was thinking of the official Sony ps3 surround sound headset, simply because being a Sony product I know it's going to be of good quality. But I'm not an expert on these things and there may be cheaper or better (or both) alternatives out there.

So basically I want to ask you guys what the best headset would be for up to £80 ($125), or £100 ($155) if it makes a significant difference. Preferably 7.1 surround sound. Thanks!

Edit: I just want to clarify that my main concern is sound quality, I don't care for the microphone, so if it doesn't have it but the sound's superb I'm fine.

Yup, thats the one, its the best one, its also works on PC, perfect sound and perfect clarity and no noise, also has virtual 7.1 sorround sound for the best quality.

I'd recommend doing some thorough research for there a few things you might want to consider. If I were to get wireless I'd probably go high end because of the potential for some of the issues wireless can present. I'd like to think that some of the better known brands have the wireless issues worked out pretty well. I also just got my kid a pair of Sharkoon X-tatic for X-Mas http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Precision-Playstation-3-PC/dp/B0017IUFAE As far as I can tell these are pretty much the same headset as the AX Pros with some obvious differences in aesthetics. I played on them the other night because I wanted to make sure they worked before wrapping them up. They are also pretty good and definitely more comfortable than the AX Pros but different in they way they sound. In some ways better, some not. Both of these headsets are true 5.1 and not simulated surround.

LOL..  do you even know what you are talking about.. the PX5 is the top of the line of the Ear Force Series!!! and the X41 is for the Xbox360.. 
the PS3 wireless headset is pretty useless.. it's stereo cause a "virtual" surround setting is worthless.. get the PX5
