Well as I was thinking of how Nintendo is moving more and more towards co-op in their games and they appear to be headed more online as well. I began thinking of how Nintendo since SNES/N64 has been the leader of local multiplayer and before online came in they were the king of all things multiplayer.
I then began thinking about the WiiU and its control scheme and how it will be used for multiplayer and I realized that the mixture of the tablet controllers and the Wiimotes will indeed change the way we play multiplayer games in fact it could create whole new experiences that can't happen on other platforms. If you think of all the online and local multiplayer capabilities the new diverse control schemes add the opportunities are endless!
One tablet three Wiimotes, games like tag will work great. One user is infected and needs to tag other users it used to be you could look at the split screen and know exactly where the enemy is. Now the guy with the WiiU controller can sneak up on you, work as a team with the other two player to evade him. This could be used in all kinds of games and genre's from FPS to party games to strategy.
Two WiiU controllers and two Wiimotes, A game like Pikmin would work amazingly well four player with two players having their tablet controllers to move around while the other two can't see their opponents. Team based game play could be escalated and used in amazing ways. This too could apply to almost every genre of multiplayer game.
Two tablets and four Wiimotes, I know Nintendo hasn't talked about this yet but with two tablets whats to say you couldn't play six player local multiplayer? Giving games three on three local play or two on four etc...etc...etc....
Then of course their is the good old four player split screen.
Or online play with two tablets and four Wiimotes or any combination the developer chooses.Or even throw in classic controllers into the mix to make games even more unique. Imagine a 6 player game with two tablets, two wiimotes and two classic controllers all being used in different ways giving each team a different advantage in combat and game play!
Think of all the new experiences Nintendo can provide multiplayer by combining and mixing up these control schemes. From RTS to MMO to FPS. The WiiU will be able to do every genre existing and even create new genre's both local multiplayer and online. Can you think of multiplayer experiences that could be done on WiiU and not on any other platform due to the mixture of tablet and motion controls?
The opportunities for new multiplayer experiences are endless!
