Isn't this like what Peter is doing on Fable TJ?

Fable Journey is an on rail ... uh.... Wizz-them-up spin off,

Fable the journey is NOT on-rails, Molynuex said it like a trillion times after the E3 expo. It seems that demo really killed the game in people's minds as being some kind of wishy-washy casual on-rails crap. But its not.

How do you move forward and back in the game so?

From what I gather and what we have been informed, for most of the game you are in a carraige being pulled a horse. So like you would in real life, you whip the rope tied to the horse to make the horse move forward and you can pull the rope to make the horse stop. Its actually a pretty clever and simple way to move. But unfortunately there will be some on-rails when you are off the carraige it seems, not too much is known though.

So you will spend most of your time with your hands held out as the carriage rocks forward following a rail...err i mean road, and then you could maybe get off the carriage once in a while and then engage in a scripted on-rails fight in which you can wave your hands to cast spells and such....

I just dont get it, what exactly is kinect supposed to add to Fable the Journey that could not be better accomplished by a controller or even the wiimote/move?

you can guide the horse anywhere you want to.  theres no predetermine path that youre forced to go

I'm pretty sure thats the definition of on rails.

OT:  This would be really interesting, like if you wanted to cast a specific spell you would need to move your hands in the correct motion.  The problem is that you would essentially have to stop moving and looking in order to pull this off (as others have stated)

How is that on-rails? Just because you are in a horse for majority of the game doesn't make it on-rails, as long as you can go wherever you want with the horse. Its like in Assasin's Creed, when you get on a horse, does that mean the game becomes on-rails? Of course not, you can still control where you are going or what you are doing. On-rails to me is something like House of the Dead where you are being guided along a pre-determined path with pretty much no control of where you are going for the entirety of the game.

That said, I don't even play Fable, neither am I a big fan of Kinect, I don't own either. But I am willing to see what they can pull off, new things should always be given a chance atleast.

What's a good synonym for 'do not want?'

Oh so you can make the horse move left and right?  Even in your description you made it sound like you can only make the horse stop or go.  If you can change direction then I guess thats a tiny bit better.  A horse and carriage is defintely not the most agile may to move or avoid attacks though.  It sounds like instead of solving the mobility problem they went, "hey if we put the character in a carriage we can use that as the excuse for why they can't move quickly in any direction quickly or effectively".

This is like Congress calling pizza a vegetable: "Yeah I mean it kinda is I guess... but every knows that its not".

I would love to see Kinect used this way too, but I don't think Lionhead is going to be the dev that makes the breakthrough if this is their solution.
