Forums - PC - Steam users, help me out here.

Okay, so the unimagineable has happened, Malware got onto my system disk and wiped documents, pics and a whole lot of stuff on both my drives. I can no longer access anything I used to have as user data, including my Steam savegames folder.

I don't suppose there's any chance that Steam takes automatic back-up copies of my saves with certain intervals without me actively telling it to? I fear that this is the case and that all my saves are gone. This also goes for all my other games. What about Battlefield 3? Will my Origin account have kept the Battlelog information and ensured I don't have to play 30 hours all over again to level up and unlock stuff?

I'm in a really bad mood now, I'm currently formatting my D drive and I'm taking down the system SSD disk any moment and wiping that as well. I may have lost hundreds of hours of game time in my saves, a level 53 Mount & Blade character (dozens of hours went into this one), a level 45 Skyrim character with nearly 60 hours played, a 65 hour save in NWN2, a rather epic character in Titan Quest etc. DAMMIT!

yeah, every time I immediately quit steam after finishing a game it makes me wait for my saves to be backed up. You should be good. =)

Also, stop downloading porn!

There is Steam Cloud support for a bunch of games , not sure how many, but i can play Skyrim on any computer so thats one game with cloud support.

Phew, maybe I'm good! Gonna check tomorrow after I install everything again.

TadpoleJakcson; that's the sad thing, I wasn't even downloading porn! I was browsing through 2leep.com like I do almost every day! A bunch of warnings jumped at me when I was reading an article mocking Twilight, perhaps I have some twilight fangirl to blame for my woes?

I'm glad I didn't have my two 1TB drives connected yet (the rig is fairly new), I had 1,5TB's of TV series, movies, pics, saves, documents, books and other shit on there!

Not every game supports steam cloud. I believe. I think most newer ones do (Might even be a requirement for it to be on steamworks not sure)

Steam Cloud is implemented on a game by game basis. Even if a game uses Steamworks, it doesn't necessarily make use of Steam Cloud, especially if it was released before Steam Cloud was made available to developers. It would've been up to the developer to patch support in. All Valve games have Steam Cloud support, for instance.

I also wanna say I had to enable Steam Cloud myself way back when it first went live, but that option doesn't seem to exist anymore, so either I'm remembering wrong or it's since been made an automatic feature.

are you sure about that? I personally cannot. I need to transfer my saves via email or usb when playing on different computers.

actually now i think about it , i think its Saints row.. i don't remember.

Now I have other problems. Windows doesn't seem to want to find my hard-drive.
Using SSD for system disk and a 500GB WD Caviar for storage.
Tried changing setting in BIOS to RAID but that only prompts my computer to restart in a loop since the SSD won't boot. I have all possible drivers installed and everything worked fine before the format so its not the setup or hardware causing it.

Any ideas anyone? I'm running Win 7 64 bit btw.

The malware went for Windows neck? You should try what the less cool version of dsister said. live boot Ubuntu
