Forums - Sales - Microsoft: 960k 360's sold during Black Friday Week in U.S

While bigger than I expected I knew 360 would do really well via deals/bundles and underlying demand over BF.

Kinect though I'm amazed at. Seems a lot of people have bought it standalone either for themselves as existing owners or as a gift for people they know with 360s. I can't work out how demand can be so long outside holidays with such terrible SW sales - Gunstringer, etc all debuted with very low sales earlier in the year - and then see this pickup: I'll be interested to see if 2012 shows same pattern or whether Kinect will now have enough install base/momentum to see more consistent demand.

The thing (at least in my opinion) with Kinect is it is a seperate piece of hardware, but requires the original piece of hardware.  This in and of itself puts a limit on what Kinect can do in regards to sales.

How much of a limit?  It is impossible to tell, but there will always be the people that either:

A.) Don't want/like it as an add-on

B.) Don't wish to pay for an additional accessory (they feel what they have is already enough)

This isn't to say that future sales will not still be very high, it just needs to be considered when looking at the potential success of Kinect throughout the future.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

Insane numbers.

I think next year with Halo 4 and a price cut they can repeat this week.

So what about this move closes the gap article ? 750k Kinect sensors in one week is awesome. Heck Kinect alone has a shot to sell 1 million units this week worldwide.

Halo 4 should definitely do well.

As for that "Move closes thay gap on Kinect" article, that thread was just so much fail on every front man. :P :)

I am shocked, wow that is amazing sales for Microsoft! They should be proud! I wonder what the ps3 sales will be like?

Kinect is really a driver in America. It's pretty much 75% attached with all of those sales.

Yeah, that makes sense.  I guess if you have 1,000 Kinects given as gifts then a percentage will actually be (politely no doubt) ignored if the recipient has no interest.  Follow up sales will therefore be lower as they would be driven by the true, active base vs the larger base.

I now have the image of some 23 year old Gears and Halo fan getting the Kinect with Gunstringer/Adventures bundle from his aunt and rolling his eyes in my head.

Very impressive! Definitely exceeded my expectations.

2012 - Top 3 [so far]

                                                                             #1                                       #2                                      #3

And so, XBox360:PS3 in the USA is increasingly becoming like PS3:Xbox360 in Japan. Amazing and not something I expected to see. My expectation was thet for the rest of the gen USA, UK and a few others would pretty much counter balance the rest of the world re 360 vs. PS3 sales and Japan would give PS3 the global edge. It will probably be that way for 8 or 9 months of the year, but the months when it really matters it seems the 360 in the USA is simply going to walk all over the rest of the world.

I hope Kinect disneyland sold well , I am quite amazed with the game (yeah I am enjoying it)..

Thats an impressive number. Will be interesting to see if the PS3 sold more or less than the 3ds.
