One Million People Are Paying for Call of Duty Elite

Never mind that the rollout for Call of Duty Elite, Call of Duty's stat tracking and social service, hasn't been smooth, Activision is sending out a press release this morning to proudly announce that it's sold one million premium accounts. Congrats!

GameStop alone sold 600,000 Elite membership.

According to Elite's status page, "Service Is Intermittent". However, all premium and Founder members should have full access to the service. If you are one of the four million who signed up for a free account, then be patient as Activision slowly opens the flood gates.

Previously, Elite's developer told Kotaku that it was going to take a "couple of weeks" to get the service fully functional.

"The demand for Call of Duty Elite at launch was so overwhelming, that for the first several days, the service did not perform up to our or our fans standards. I want to personally thank our fans for their patience. Our teams have been working around the clock to get the service scaled up to meet demand," said Eric Hirshberg, CEO, Activision Publishing. "I'm very pleased to announce today that the service is now performing stably and anyone who wants to try Call of Duty Elite is now able to do so."

As I previously mentioned, the status page reads "Service Is Intermittent". So you might want to try Elite, but that could mean you won't be able to do so. Sit tight, people! Four million CoD players is a lot.

I'm not up to speed on this... is it basically Halo Waypoint... except you pay for it?

There are 2 version, free and premium

http://www.callofduty.com/elite/whats-included

free includes stats tracking, clans, theater etc
the premium includes the DLC maps and daily competitions where you can actually win stuff..

apparently elite is more for the free dlcs than for the stat tracking, after 4 dlcs you are saving money that's what i get from kotaku

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Does anyone have it here on this site? How is it? I promise we won't make fun of you.. >_>

Its been months that elite has been released and people are still posting stupid comments like "Oh its Bungie.net/Battlelog but paid". NO its not. Go try it out, or read a little before making such comments.

The paid version of elite is pretty much giving you all the dlc early and saves you about $10 than buying them separately. Plus it also includes competitions that you can participate on a daily basis where you can win REAL prizes. Finally its also where you can participate with your clan as well and record longer HD videos. Everything else on elite, like stat-tracking, groups, facebook integration is FREE.

Premium Elite is very much meant for the very hardcore COD gamers who want to play competitively and who end up buying all the dlc anyways. I don't have the paid version because I never tend to need to buy dlc over the excessive amounts of maps that are already in the game, but its a very good deal for those that do buy everything+they get it early on a monthly basis. Also Activision is giving the paid members 1 month extra for the problems on elite.

^^ well I'm way happier with something like this to generate extra revenue for the publisher instead of a "online pass" system.. this system is actually benefiting the gamers and not punishing them for buying second hand or lending a game from a friend.
