I'd rather not get my info from IGN ever. I think I am about to have to get a Nintendo Power subscription again.

No we didn't. 360 sells better then PS3 in the combined EMEAA/Americas region almost every week, and for the annual total, it does. For a quick reference 360 sold 13.4 million units in the combined Americas/EMEAA region in 2010, and PS3 sold 560k less units at 12.84 million. (Wii sold 15.98 units, so 360 could top Nintendo off this year). M5 you have a bad memory. Japan sales are what kept PS3 sales above 360 sales last year. So 360 is a very successful console. still you have a bad memory. For 2011 sales in combined EMEAA/Americas are 8.4 million for PS3, 7.95 million units for 360, and 6.75 for the Wii. However it's unlikely it will end this way because 360 and Wii tend to have stronger holidays then PS3. we've done this already hadn't. realized PS3 was doing so good, but history repeats its self. You bolded so much, but only replied to the one aspect. that was the point. i like to try and stay on topic. well in the beginig anyway lol. Who knows what could have happened if PS3 launched in 2005. I don't think it would have helped Sony because in 2006, the PS3 was a $600 machine, so it may have been more expensive in 2005, and I do agree with the author that many early PS3 supporters bought a PS3 because it was a cheap blue-ray player. Most PS3 gamers I know who are 30 plus got the PS3 for this reason and got maybe about 3-4 games lifetime. thats the only thing i agree with the author on The PS3 was barely ready to be launched in 2006, a launch in 2005 may have actually hurt the PS3 more then it helped. thats my point and the other reason i hate the aligned luanch theory. On the same note, a launch in 2006 for 360 could have helped. Launching the console so early gave rise to a substantial fail rate, and gave the console a bad image. It was this bad image that you could argue helped early PS3 sales. likely However non of this did happen, it's all speculation. You can't argue that PS3 would have sold better if it launched at the same time as 360 regardless if it's a 2005 or 2006 launch. thats my point The only thing you can get from an article like this is that 360 is successful, and it's going to hold strong in the next coming years. PS3 is also very strong.... lilekly that's it. if you say so. i'm just here for the pie lol. |
Not sure why anyone even cares whether the PS3 catches the XBox 360 or not. The Wii already won this generation. There are no medals or rewards for coming in 2nd or 3rd. Sure the PS3 was going to catch up. It sells over 7 million in Japan, while the XBox 360 sells one million. There is your difference. Even though the 360 gained some decent market shares in Japan, it no where near enough to seriously compete in that market yet. If you don't include Japan It's pretty much even year for year. That's impressive on Microsoft part consider what the PS2 did to the XBox and Gamecube last generation. The Playstation is no longer the leader of console gaming. Like the NES & Genesis & SNES, it had it's run.

This is even worse than that other thread.
...Seriously IGN? They are (I think) the biggest gaming news website on the internet, they need to start acting like it.

No I think you assumed I agreed with you. I have a good memory, and I never agreed. 360 is more popular in the combined Americas and EMEAA region.

Article in short, PS3 launching a year later and a $600 cost them the lead, if they had launched first and at $400 they would've been further ahead than the 360 is now.
Regardless, if the trend of the past couple years continues, it will eventually pull ahead but the PS3 isn't going to outsell the 360 like the PS2 did the XBOX and that in a big part is down to a bad move by Sony.

Oh well, I raised the point not againts you to comment then. I know 360 is more popular in EMEAA/Americas combined, and well that just shows that the 360 is a successful system.

This. Well said Xander.
the only reason PS3 might outsell 360 is because people who already own a 360 want to try the PS3 exclusives and in such a long console lifespan they have the money to do so.
conversly some Europeans hate america and refuse to buy a 360, or basically are sony fanboys
Japan is about the same as Europe, with almost no sales it gives sony a huge advantage, it has a huge gaming market that refuses to purchase a 360 no matter what happens.
will PS3 outsell 360? maybe
in america? no, and if it does the game per owner ratio will be very very low
i for one, bought the PS3, expected great things, expected uncharted 2 to be one of the best games ever, it was meh
Mag was fun, but the main game mode only had 3 maps.... where is the blu ray size o awsome?
metal gear solid 4 is great
resistance 1 and 2 were terrible..... how they got good reviews is beyond me.
these big titles are WORSE then 3rd party titles i'd *regretfully* have to say the black ops and MW3 are better then resistance 1 and 2, gears blows away uncharted and i can live without mag and MGS4.
