I have never played a MGS game before so I want to get this collection. So If I haven't played the first one does it matter?

Yes it does matter, I wouldn't bother buying the collection.

Anyone can play MGS3 standalone and still love it. I don't think you need to play MGS1 prior to buying this collection, you can play through MGS3 and MGSPW. For MGS2 you would miss a lot from not having played MGS1 but thats 2/3 games you can still enjoy greatly. I recomend buying MGS1 on PSN in addition to this collection.

Psh no way.  I loved 2 and 3 without having played 1 (though it would probably help to understand some things in 2)

3 and Peace Walker are prequels to the 1 and 2 so you can probably play those and understand what is going on.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

If I were to theoretically buy this collection, what is the order I should play them in? I already bought MGS1 on psn, and have barely touched it. Should I play the Nes games 1st then MGS 1-3 and then Peace Walker? Also, my friend told me to play MGS3 before 1, but I felt like that would be too weird. Should I buy MGS4 and play that before peace walker?Plz help. :(

Edit: Does every game in the collection have trophies? Even the Nes games?

MGS3 -> MGSPW -> MG1 -> MG2 -> MGS1 -> MGS2 -> MGS4

That's the chronological order, and no I don't think the NES games have trophies, the 3 main games in the collection do.

I knew MGS3 was a prequel(at least if my friend can be trusted), but is it more entertaining in your opinion to play them in that order? If I finish MGS1, will I feel more attached to snake and therefore his backstory or whatever the heck MGS3 is about will be more entertaining to me? What is the best way to play them, not the order in the universe.

Anyone who hasn't played these games should play MGS3 first, then MGS 1, MGS4...and forget MGS2 even exists lol.

Your understanding of the storyline will be much better if you just elimitate part 2...

I think you can't go wrong either way. I've played them in both orders at different times, enjoyed them about the same. The only thing you have to consider is if you will mind playing older games after playing more recent titles. You hopefully wont lose some interest in playing MGS1 after playing MGS3. My personal suggestion would be to play them in release order.

MG1 -> MG2 -> MGS1 -> MGS2 -> MGS3 -> MGS4 - MGSPW

I know it's probably a tough decision to make but either way you are making a great decision in playing these games!

^_^

I would play them in the order they were released

MG (MSX2) -> MG2:SS (MSX2) -> MGS (PS1) -> MGS2 (PS2) -> MGS3 (PS2) -> MGS:PO (PSP) -> MGS4 (PS3) -> MGS:PW (PSP)

Kojima mostly wrote the story as he went along so playing them in order they were made would probably be the best way to understand what's going on. Honestly, though the story is so complex it requires a lot of playing

oh my god. the ending (mgs3) is soooooooooooooo amazing and emotional. thanks for the collection. i'm happy and empty right now, because the story is so awesome and sad.

the best RPG's are coming 2013 !!!! oh my god, this is perfect for RPG-GAMER = ) Ni No Kuni - 25 january, Time and Eternity, tales of xillia (PS3) and the maybe best game ever: metal gear solid ground zero
