Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony stock 24 year low. "No turnaround in sight".

Not suprising. Sony isn't thinking about the purpose of their games anymore and making them just because they think anybody who played them before is instantly going to buy them. This is why I love Nintendo. They actually spend time on the games they make and a purpose to create them.

Prime example: Zelda Skyward Sword. Took 5 years to make and is now kicking ass.

I'm not sure what you are getting at here.

But, it would be nice if certain divisions of Nintendo actually released these great games.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

If Sony does go under I wonder if someone will end up picking up the PlayStation line. It's still a popular brand name with some value.

Apple PlayStation.

Microsoft would, not entirely sure they would do anything with it though. No way would the risk letting Apple get the PS name and franchises.

Seece, I think based on everything, google would be the one to try and steal that brand name.

Personally I love the fact that some people actually think Kaz will turn it around.

Edit: By turn it around, I mean internally, it is possible for external factors to somehow work in Sony favour some day in the future.

So when Ps3 finaly does great, Sony itself does bad.

Take my love, take my land..

It's true that Sony is losing a lot of money, but don't be overdramatic with these figures. A company that brings in tens of billions of dollars per year and makes everything / provides nearly everything under the sun could simply sell off its fatty worthless parts to sustain the elements of the company that continue to provide useful goods and services. Sony also has another advantage, if a big war were to come to East Asia, you'd better believe that Sony would be thrust into a General Motors like roll, as they can make just about anything the Japanese government would want from them. That's probably a long way off but all the currency bullshit going on globally typically comes before really big wars since it prevents people from making enough money to live happily en masse.

In theory its actually easier to defeat a company like Microsoft or Nintendo because they really only do one or two things well. If everyone started using phone OS and office software that wasn't made by Microsoft they'd be disrupted pretty severely, and if people stop liking Nintendo software, they'd be disruptable too. Problem is people like Windows, Office, Mario & Pokemon and no one has really figured out how to stop people from liking those things.

I really am worrying for Sony, the used to be industry leaders in so many things, but then around the time of the PS3 it all started to fall apart. They managed to turn things around with the PS3 since its launch, but other things haven't fared so well. Their movies business has been okay, but other electronics aren't doing especially good, and Sony is fading in all those areas as Samsung replaces them

Their attempts to turn this around have seemingly failed with the Sony Tablet S not really taking off, so the only potential bright spot would be if they could get their new Sony android phones right (once the take over is through), but I feel that they are too late to the party

As for the direct gaming side, I don't think Sony is going to fall apart to such an extent that they stop making consoles, as they could just become a service provider if the hardware continues to struggle

As a Sony fan, I am worried, but I think PlayStation will be alright

I don't know how well Sony will do in the future, it's just too .. strange to believe they could possibly fall. These things can be a long time coming and still shock though.

One things for sure, Stringer needs to go, the man is a walking disaster. Sony is a badly run business, put aside all the losses ect, one of the main reasons I find them poorly run is how weak the synergy is within the company, and how it seems some divisions don't even communicate with others.

It might be best for Sony to really split up their divisions so if the worst does come, certain divisions can be salvagable and they can carry on (I don't know how that would work exactly) I do believe in terms of gaming though they could turn it around. Getting back on top wouldn't be awfully difficult for them, but learning how to make a profitable business .. well, they need help in that regard, MS is looking like it'll dominate Xmas sales with the 360, with no cut in 3 years, yet it baffles me why Sony has cut the price of the PS3 (now $150 since in the last 2 years) (when they only just became profitable on the PS3) when they're losing money hand over fist.

Well they are getting better at comminicating within the company, the Sony Network is starting to exist. I wouldn't say Stringer is the problem, he has good ideas, but i feel he struggles as an outsider in the company

As for the price cut, I think that was the right thing to do, as it helped Uncharted sell nearly 4m copies at launch, probably immediately returning about 2x their costs of production and advertsing

"No turnaround in site"

Remove that from the title, it's a little misleading, no?

It's Sony here. Like TheSource stated above, don't be over dramatic about the figures. Jesus, we're already jumping to "no turn around".

I'm pretty sure they would have sold their worthless assets if they could find a buyer.. but who is gonna buy a worthless asset in these times? except Sony who bought out Sony Ericson..

I'm sure Sony will overcome this, they're the leader in electronics, generations of entertainment and consoles only start when Sony says so: PS2, dvd, blu ray, PS3, walkman etc.
