Forums - Nintendo - Online version of SSFII coming to Virtual Console

Will you still need the "X-Band" adapter to play online? LOL!

Why not just use the snes version? Or can it really be because of that x-band adapter? Was that released for snes? The X-band?

Both systems had the X-Band adapter.  I'm not sure why the Genesis versions of any game get picked over the SNES versions when it comes to the VC.  Those of us growing up with Nintendo remember playing games like Earthworm Jim on the SNES, not the Genesis.

It kind of like the 90s except a lot less platformers and a lot more FPSs

The three SNES SFII titles are already on the VC, so Capcom just wants to give an additional incentive to people to buy more SFII with this Genesis version.

By the way, Earthworm Jim was superior on the Genesis. It had an extra level.

Yes the Genesis version had an extra leve, but the snes version had fancy graphical effects.  But I was wondering about the X-band cause could network code already be in the genesis version of the game?  But you're probably right.

Could you explain what this has to do with anything?? I really dont know about this xband, but in this day and age they cant get a game running online?? Beacuse it might not have code written in it??? Write the code into the SNES version if thats the case.  Hell, the KOF games released on PSN have online and SNK doesnt have anywhere near the resources that Capcom has.

Virtual Console games are running on a set emulator that probably hasn't been updated since the console's release.  It's not easy to just shoehorn network code through an untouched rom.  I was just curious if they touched the rom, ported the game (Which is most likely what those Neo Geo games are), or they updated the emulator.  If the xband code is in the rom, I was wondering if they're emulating X-band.  Why are you getting so worked up over this?

I'm sorry if im coming across as getting worked up, im not.  I just didnt know what this x-band was or what it had to do with online. Im going with they are porting the game or touching the rom I seriously doubt Ninty is updating the emulator this late in the game.  I just feel Capcom is going to pull another Mvs.C3, lets release the inferior version of the game and later on we'll release the version that should have been released in the first place. But WTH, they have been getting away with this all gen, so Wii only owners enjoy.

X-band was the first thing that allowed network play on consoles.  I just couldn't remember if it was Genesis only.

Really?? How come they never implemented network play on Genesis then???
