44. Super Smash Bros. (N64)

Probably my most played local multiplayer game ever, or at least one of the Top3. Of course Melee and Brawl were just as great as this, but I spent much more time with the first SSB.

2012 - Top 3 [so far]

I do respond to your games! I said Metroid Prime was probably my favorite shooter (It's much higher on my list) and one of my favorite gamecube games, and that Kirby too was also a great choice. Don't want to expand on Metroid Prime too much because it's much higher on my list

For Super Star, I'm not as huge of a fan as others, but other Kirby games do make my list pretty high. and I just realized......I may have missed 1 really fun Kirby.

I can easily name a top 100 games too, in fact I'd rather do that. So many great games just didn't make my cut off.

Also 3 Zelda's, but non Ocarina of Time? hm. Well OoT isn't my favorite either, but I still rank it above almost any console Zelda.

Actually, you'll find that not a single N64 game is on my list, and only a few PS1 games are.  That generation sucked balls (had the technology to make games 3D, but not the ability to make them look, feel, or play like anything more than ass).  It was that transitional period and I hated it. Zelda was no better, though that was admittedly more the fault of the console than the game itself.  Hell, the Smash Brothers Series is amongst my all-time favorites, and I simply cannot return to the original Smash Brothers.

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch, XSX

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360

3DS, DS, GBA, Vita, PSP, Android

44 - Kirby super Star (SNES, DS)

Not a huge fan of Kirby usually, and in retrospect this should be down there between Joe and Mac, and Modern Warfare, but whatever. This game is just special to me, the combination of value, variety, fun factor, and nostalgia make it just so damn awesome. It's not just a collection of minigames, but a collection of full-length kirby games, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I still love attacking Dyna Blade every chance I get. I have this on DS, maybe I'll play it again soon!

Also: Bawww, nobody ever responds to my games! I also notice that a lot of people are having 'so-so' opinions on some of their games lower down the list. If you 'kinda liked it but didn't love it', you shouldn't have it on an "all time favorites" list....and if you can't think of 50 games you truly enjoyed, then maybe you're a n00b :P

Hell, I could easily think of 100 games that I love...I had to chop up this list just to get some variety in there.

Some of the games lower down the list have glaring flaws in my case, which diminished their ability to be further up. That they're placed at all shows that i'm a more noncritical gamer, and also that i've only ever really played around 140 games to any great extent, so i'm looking at roughly the top 35% of my entire gaming experience thus far

Number 44 is StarFox 64. I'll be interested to see where that ends up on everyone else's lists

Also i've derived the distribution of my list
3rd Gen: 2
4th Gen: 4
5th Gen: 15
6th Gen: 13
7th Gen: 16

An odd distribution, since there's only 2 7th gen games in the top ten, yet they have the broadest representation overall

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

#44 - WipEout Pulse (PSP)

The first of 8 racers in my top 50, and the first of 3 WipEout titles.

Sad to see you have Pacific Rift at 8 :-p

Well, there's only a bit over a hundred games I've played extensively enough to form an opinion of. And a bulk of them are PS2 shovelware.

Still, I don't think that's so bad compared to your 172 games (if your collection is up-to-date) considering you've got a ten-year head start on me.

Hear, hear.

There were maybe two developers in the fifth generation whose games haven't aged like milk on a windowsill.

OT:

Christ, I'm falling behind. I just can't be arsed to come up with something to say about the next game on my list.

Excellent choice, that game is my favorite kirby of all time, but then again im not a fan of Kirby xD

I love Milkyway Wishes 's system to copy and use the powers you had. Also it had great bosses and cooperative gameplay :D

But no kirby game can beat Samurai Kirby! By far, the best minigame of Kirby

My choices:

#45: Devil May Cry 1 (PS2): Man, this game is absolutely amazing and hard! I remember staying hours collecting red orbs in some mission because you could only save between missions, so i usually picked up some easy peasy mission and then spent hours collecting the orbs. This was because I started playing on Hard XD

I beat it like 5 times on Hard and one on Dante Must Die or something like that

#44: Gran Turismo 2 (PSX) : Aside for Need for speed series, I don't usually play car racing games let alone 'Driving Simulation'  games. But GT series had something different and got me hooked the instant I started watching my brother playing it. The first one was ok, but this is a real sequel, the career mode was absolutely addictive. I spent hours buying cars and tuning them, and then I ran out of money so I needed to start racing again :)

Completely agree, the other 2 were great but this one was simply amazing, i played it a lot even when my other N64 controllers were broken (yeah I played SSB alone and had fun too xD)

Never tried pulse but PR is great.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

You are a graphic whore... (not to insult, nost people are).

I think the very opposite of you, N64 expanded the limitations of gaming, and gave Nintendo the ability to add innovation and quality to all their games. I think the best Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, and damn well Star Fox titles were all made on the N64. Since then Nintendo has just tried to make games that matched up in quality, only only now with some of their Wii franchises are the pseudo succeeding.

However I don't have and PS1 games on the list. Final Fantasy was best in 2D, and I never played FFIX, Front Mission, or Chrono Cross on PS1. Only Ps1 games I actually look back and would even add to my top 100 are Gran Turismo and Twisted Metal, but TMB and GT3/4 are the best of those franchises.

Seems a lot of people are picking games I put way high on my list. Great game the original Smash Bros was. I liked Melee a bit better because of the trophy system (Smash PS3), but they are all good. SSB for N64 just created the core gameplay.

Also Mario Kart Wii, another great game (to the other poster).
