Thank you padib.

I see now that your conviction against homosexuality is Biblical reference and nothing personal. I can appreciate that. You would do well to let people know that in the future.

I don't see why that makes any difference. He's still a despicable human being.

I think what you missed from his post is that he was trying to prove the opposite of what he said, and it was sarcasm. What I'm sure he appreciated though is that I was able to put myself in the eyes of a person from the opposite viewpoint and admit that I could not possibly bear it, and that I could understand their grief.

@bold. As for you, I don't know how much more I can tolerate the hate you spew at me. Up to now, you are clearly the hater by excellence in this thread. I don't say this to put you down, rather I want you to understand that everything you accuse the church of doing, you are doing it tenfold. Let it serve as a testimony that it is better to look at the log that's in your eye rather than the speck that is in the eye of your neighbor.

Luke 6:42:

"How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

Funny, want me to quote some of the nice things you said about me and others in this very thread earlier? Think I forgot about that?

I do not tolerate intolerance. I do not respect sexists and homophobes. And it's not because they think 'different' than me, but because they hurt other people (and so does the church). And I do not tolerate that!

"I don't understand how someone could like Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, but not like Twilight!!!"

"Last book I read was Brokeback Mountain, I just don't have the patience for them unless it's softcore porn."

(The Voice of a Generation and Seece)

"If you cant stand the sound of your own voice than dont become a singer !!!!!"

Rather, since you seem motivated, I would want you to make a list of all the things I said to you that were directly insulting (of which I've changed attitude), and list all the things you said, and compare. I have a feeling you'll be in for a nice surprise.

You have called me chauvenistic, sexist, homophobic, a scheming opportunist (adhering to the bible only because it's to my advantage), a hypocrite, disgusting, practically a monster (you wouldn't want to touch me with a stick). I know there is more, but it's already alot.

And what exactly is not true from the part in italics? Did you also not read the underlined part?

You have called me chauvenistic, sexist, homophobic, a scheming opportunist (adhering to the bible only because it's to my advantage), a hypocrite, disgusting, practically a monster (you wouldn't want to touch me with a stick), pathetic, mentally disturbed (I need to visit a psychiatrist). I know there is more, but it's already alot.

I recognize where I've been insulting, and yes it's my bad. What I find incredible is that you don't see your shortcomings, and that leads me to believe you're just as bad as everyone you're accusing.

In all fairness, given the things you've said in this thread and others...sapphi is very justified in saying a lot of these things.  I'm not saying you are a monster, but your behaviour early in this thread indicates you're more than capable of monstrosities.

You are a sexist, you've made that clear time and time again (using the bible to back your claims).  you're also chauvanistic (women have their place)
You are homophobic, in a way, you feel that their behaviour is unacceptable in the eyes of the lord, and insist Gays deny their nature
you certainly are an opportunist, using every angle you can to justify your behaviour and push agenda (Again, based on your behavior here)
Not always a hypocrite, but you have done some hypocritical things
And while most religious people wouldn't agree, I do think that people who so aggressively follow religion to push sexist agendas to be mentally disturbed

All that added up...yeah, in today's modern world you'd be looked upon with scorn.  Regardless of what your bible teaches you, it is NOT  acceptable to 'put a woman in her place.'  is is NOT acceptable to judge gays for doing gay things.  it is NOT okay to judge others in the name of god.  it IS okay to follow a god, but not to push that on others in the form of discrimination and various -isms.

I'm a white male dating a black female who wears pants better than I do.  How does that make you feel?

Also, regardless of the exact definitions of Chauvanistic, sexism, homophobia, etc...your attitudes towards these topics is still unacceptable. Arguing the semantics of the situation is just your way of wiggling out of responsibility.

Padib you are a great guy! You are not perfect, but being able to publicly apologize for your behaviour is humbling and a sign of a decent and big hearted person! Don`t you forget that.

Only half right.  Yes it's humbling and noble to admit mistakes and accept defeat, but he's not a great guy.  Nobody with his ideals could be considered great in this day and age.

Accept defeat? Did not know there was a war going on.
So far his homosexual approach has been nothing more than fair and just. He`s trying to explain how a religious person sees it and deals with it.
Sexist, homophobic, chauvanistic? Really?  All he did was not support homosexuality like some here do and say the magical words "women have a place". So far he hasn`t explained himself on this, btw.

So yes, he`s a great guy.

Would the world be better off if religion was out of the equation? Offcourse.

Religions disputes have been the cause of many wars and campaigns. The crusades, Spanish inquisition.......Israel vs every country that borders them.

Hell in the middle east you will be killed if you "troll" Islam in public. Now thats a fanboy!

And replaced with what?  You would suggest that society be totally tempered and generate its values out of a consumerist driven economy where corporations pander to every base desire, and the only thing that informs the process is the base wants of individuals?  In short, throw out religion and replace it with the Home Shopping Network?

Historically, you have seen for centuries banking interests and public debt funding wars.  To ignore these elements is to be short-sighted and not be able to see an effective solution to problems.

Its easy to poke holes but harder to come up with a acceptable alternative. Id take home shopping network over religious inspired genocides any day.

Well said :)

Although, I still believe that religion is important as a way of teaching moral values to children. It's one of the main pillars of a civilised society imo
