Forums - Sales - PS3 and 360 difference is 2.07m in shipments, can PS3 overtake 360 by Dec. 31, 2011? (Read OP for rules)

PS3 to pass 360 this holiday quarter?

Yes 99 37.79%

No 163 62.21%

Total:262

Not sure how this fits into the picture but if it's accurate it surely suggests that there are fewer PS3s in the wild, potentially prompting additional shipments relative to 360.

history will most likely repeat itself yet one more time.

ps3 cuts their price -- gap closes -- people get excited -- 360 price cut -- gap widens -- people get sad -- ps3 cuts their price ....

Except the gap closes far quicker than it widens.

perhaps but yet the gap continues to persist.  we're in what, the sixth year now.  the first of the next gen consoles has already been announced.  rumors are ramping up about MS and Sony next gen consoles.  i'm sorry but i just have a hard time caring anymore...  sony has done pretty good at minimizing the 1yr head start the 360 had but whether it passes it or not history is going to view this race as a tie.

...and hot avatar. xD

MS is in a financial position to be able to cut the price, the real question is will MS announce a price cut or do they have something that will send sales soaring Thur the roof .Am guessing they have something ready in the wings for when this moment arrived ,it's a wait & see thing.

i think MS is counting on Halo:CE but it doesn't look like that will help much.

I wasn't even considering Halo CE ,was thinking something bigger & industry  rocking .
but like i said it will be a wait & see thing .

well theres MW3 but your talking about an unknown factor which is way to far out there for me to think about lol. the only thing i see is a $100 pricecut on the elite model which im sure won't happen lol.

far as i can tell ip wise there nothing shocking or big enough to boost 360 sells, but your theory is gets me thinking.

im still wondering what Seece thinks MS has? his explenation is to vague but this isn't the place or thread for that so i'll leave it where it is.

the gap is closing though. just 2-3 years ago ps3 was about 9 million behind the 360 now its only 2 million so yes history will repeat itself and the gap will keep closing.

My thoughts  wre along the lines of a massive rebooting of all thier great IPS or maybe a major buy of some sort , but then again we are talking of a company who at times tends to do some crazy stuff .

1. Sony would need to ship 2.07M more PS3 than 360s this qtr. Sorry this just isnt going to happen. PS3 will ship similiar to last years numbers and I suspect the same for 360.
2. MS is going to promote the 360 big time this year. What I mean by that they are going to do what Nintendo did last year. Every week there will be temporary price cuts at retailers, gift cards galore, etc. When the holiday season is over prices will still be at the same level they are now, but the holiday sales will still be consistent with last year.

3. 360 shipments last qtr of year jump larger than PS3 shipments jump

Last 3 years.
360 270%, 250%, 230%
PS3 190%, 200%, 180%

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

well they could get the original owners of rare who have since made a new studio about 2 or 3 months of MS purchsing the studio to make a new Killer instinct game, or another conkur game or they could get insomiac to do it? other then that i'm not sure theres much more MS can do considering they haven't really used there ip of late/5 yr's.

No it most likely won't. However it probably will by around June...and then it will go back to the way it was once MS cuts the price next year.
