Forums - Gaming - Patent for biometric PS3 controller and handheld, by Sony

Interesting, but like you said, it doesn't say if it's old or new.

I believe Nintendo unveiled the Vitality Sensor in 2009, so this might be as old, if not more. Some articles I found on Google mentioned something similar to this, but this seems a lot newer than those articles, since they mentioned only the Move and the pictures are a lot different.

how cool.. but I already think the Dualshock is waaay too expensive... 60 euros here in Europe.. wtf is with that?

i'd imagine recent as move controllers were only released last year, and it has plans for that style controller

Woah i can't believe i didn't catch that! Interesting.

phinch pointed out that the patent included the move controller. So it may not be too old. Should be interesting what comes out of it.

Aren't there deals in stores and online that are much cheaper than the actual retail price?

Much better than the Vitality Sensor...

Play games with controllers, not by sticking my finger in a machine...

Take note, Nintendo.

This is Hideo Kojima's dream come true.

to be fair.. while this looks like a much nicer solution.. in real life it's never gonna work.. a clip like the vitality sensor is much better cause it stays on you for 100 percent.. unlike this where you have to keep contact with the device yourself which is really hard.. *picks his nose*

probably won't see anything for 10 years, companies patent stuff like this all the time. Apple have been sitting on some biometric phone feature patents for a few years as well http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/09/apple-patent-biometrics/
