Forums - Sales - Nikkei: Nintendo to Post ¥100 Billion ($1.3B, £821 mil) Loss In Financial Results Tomorrow

Wasn't a similar thing said last year with the 'loss' being a reduced profit..? And the strong Yen was partly to blame then too. Unless I'm just remembering things wrong..?

If they are goign to profit this quarter it wont be much and they will lost it all again next year,

I just don't know how they can make that much loss? That is PS3/X360 early day days level of loss. Yes exchange rate is pretty bad and they probably sell 3DS with slight loss but still they sell tons of Wiis and DSs with profit and they also still sell most 1st software with high profit margins. Could it be that R&D costs for Wii U are that high? I remember Sony losing tons of money even before PS3 launch because of high R&D costs for PS3.

Ouch!!! The holidays can save the year and especially the 3DS sales (but it is selling at a loss so! ).. Just Ouch!

*Sells Nintendo stock as fast as possible*

"PS3/X360 early day days level of loss" ... well how much hit does a company take when they release a new hardware thats not successful on the go? .. this seems like the logical thing to happen then.

Not when the only thing you sell at loss (3DS) is probably sold with little loss...they're not losing 100-150$ every 3DS sold, probably less than 20$, and in Europe they're surely making profit (179€ is actually near 200$!). The only possible reason is the costs of Wii U development, together with all the SW they are developing and not launching (many games for 3DS, and probably some games for Wii U too). This is not good for the company, but it'll be important to recover immediately from these losses next Q: with Wii sales increasing, Zelda, Mario 3D, Mario Kart, decreasing of costs for 3DS...they really can't go anymore down!

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

Ouch!  Didn't expect anything as big as that:

maybe this is in order:

or this:

The Analyst that said they are going bankrupt is looking more plausible now :/ I expect more bad news too.

So that's how much they spent on getting Monster Hunter.
