Get ethomaz and aldro in here.

They need to face reality.

reality is overrated

Reality is all there is. Self-delusion will only end in misery.

no it doesn't ! not if i die before i get disaffected!

Death is the ultimate source of suffering. One which none can escape. At that moment everything you've (consciously) ever known is stripped away from you and (for most people) it's the first encounter with true fear.

yeah, but it's the same if i had faced reality, at least i die with living a happy life of self delusion, and i can still die without warning

No. The mentality of being 'blissfully ignorant' will serve no man at the time of death. It will merely serve as a reminder that one's whole life was spent chasing shadows and one now has to enter the dark without any knowledge of what lay ahead.

that is strange though, as i believe that only the self delusional claim to know what lies ahead. i think we just came full circle here.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Gears 3 got the same score from Eurogamer (different reviewer).

All we can ask for from individual reviewers is consistency. If this reviewer is generally not a fan of cinematic, heavily story driven games then I expect 8/10 to be among the highest of scores he gives for games of this ilk.

It is a rather perennial question: Do review sites get reviewers to review games in genres they don't like, knowing that the review score will be somewhat lower than if a game is reviewed by a genre fan? Sometimes I think reviewers should state up front their genre bias (positive or negative) for the game they're reviewing so that people can calibrate with reviewer's opinions.

Yeah yeah yeah, but how come the site gave U2 10/10, whereas this guy gave it an 8, for the same reasons...

He is meant to be a game reviewer, and this game clearly sets out to do what it wants to do, very well, he just doesn't like what it is doing

Because the games were reviewed by two completely different people 2 years apart...

A game reviewer is meant to tell you what they think of the game and their experiance with it, if you just want to know what the developers set out to do then you can watch trailers play demos and read developer interviews. Movie games accomplish what they set out to do, that doesn't mean they deserve  9-10 review scores...

Well said. A lot of people seem to be under the illusion that Eurogamer (and others) is like some kind of hive mind, when in reality it's a collection of individuals. One of those individuals gave U2 10/10, a different individual gave U3 8/10, and I'm left wondering, so what?

There are many critically acclaimed games that I don't see the fuss about or even go so far as hating, and I'm sure the people bitching have plenty that they don't see as utter perfection either, which means they're just the same as the guy who reviewed it when all is said and done.

This is not true for anything within our experience so why should it be true for anything else?

What you are in fact doing is putting an absolute measure on your fund of knowledge. You do this despite knowing that one's own fund of knowledge is most certainly a relative phenomena.

In other words, you are denying the possibility of something you know nothing about. A simple study of the history of man shows that this is not the pathway of progress.

Wow it's surprising to see something so reasonable come out of David Jaffe's mouth.

I never got the Jaffe hate, sure he is opinionated but I don't understand the people that treat him like some kind of crazy loon. Every time I have heard him speak he has always backed up his opnions.

Well I haven't seen too many articles from him but the one's I have were pretty worthless.

Oh so it's just shoddy journalism that his given him a bad name, that explains things. I have long regarded any story that uses quotes with a massive grain of salt, whenever possible I track down the source as that is less likely to be taken completely out of context.

Nah, most of his crazy rants were directly from his blog... where he more or less sounds like a drunken frat person 80% of the time or so.

This one actually looks like he just gave things a lot of thought and went out of his way to sound polite and intellegent.

see? and that is where you are wrong, i am not denying anything, i simply accept that i have no way to know what lies ahead. and claiming i do would be self delusional. that is reality for you, the very thing you promoted in this thread.

i wasn't sure this was news worthy and thats why i didn't post it last night, but it seems many of you agree and when you think about it every game leads you to a point.

Saints Row and GTA maybe open world game and FF may give you a big ship but they have there boundaries as well.

theres more then one way to finish a game but theres only one way to beat it.

You don't accept the possibility of something I do. That is the real difference between us and no matter how much we argue that point will remain unchanged. You should be careful of saying I'm wrong - I've tried to not make any radical statements except for disagreeing with you. I will do that again:

'' i simply accept that i have no way to know what lies ahead''

Just because you accept something as impossible doesn't make it so.

it may very well be that you out of all times out of all people have found a way to know what lies ahead, but so claim millions of other people. i simply have no way to verify any of these claims.
